my point about registrations and profit was and i am sure you fully understood that its totally irelevant if numbers are up if your not making any money. and they are up only on last years disatourous registrations...and yes i agree now is the time to sell, as Pendragons used car operation is nothing less than a shambles, UCM great theory lousy practice...

Re: Oct New car registrations up

But on a more serious note, some good points you make. My own research suggests that PDG are no worse than the other dealers, but I have more knowledge of the 2nd hand game anyway. Either way it's a moot point for me, I've held on to those far too long, and another 2p(and a bit) off the price hits my stopper, which would see me selling these up and taking my profits elsewhere.

Re: Its that time of year

well with the news that registrations of new cars are up (against last year) it doesnt look like it is helping Pendragon, i would sugest to GTEN, that he speaks to the Volvo dealers who are actually making money from a very loyal customer base, and then go and try to negotiate a deal at a Pendragon site...Pendragon are there own worst enemys, they have destroyed staff morale and loyalty(the highest turn over of staff in motor trade) and in return that has brought about poor customer relationships and very few return and buy another car from this them. think you will see Vertu. Lookers. Sytner and Vardy group, slowly picking up dealerships from Pendragon as more and more manufacturers terminate there contracts,

GTEN...I know of a Volvo Dealer who will make 650K NET this year so it is PDG who are fault, NOT the franchises they chose to represent. From the inside it is possible to see and believe the facts as they are and not the fairy tales of Shareholders trying to talk up the prospects of this company for their own gains....

It's that time of year

yes yet another site has closed - 'Stratstone' ex Volvo site in Cardiff last friday(30th Oct), Volvo withdrew their franchise a few months ago(only two Volvo franchises left with PDG from 25 a couple of years' ago), tried to continue as a independent Volvo specialist repairer and the 'wonderful'!!!! UCM sales programme - guess what, yes they failed. Redundancies followed(most voluntary as the long serving loyal staff saw the writing on the wall), it took only a month after that that the doors finally shut on once what was a thriving business ruined by the number crunchers and the 'yes' men currently at PDG, they appoint senior!!! personell at dealerships without any authority or portfolio and expect results, the market has changed and unfortunately PDG has not moved with it, franchises are being lost as many manufacturers are loosing patience with PDG, therefore there will be more sites closing in the near future, will there be much left - i doubt it, i am a share holder(holding losses) so i am therefore an interested party hoping for some recovery with PDG, and unless the very senior directors come to terms with the current market and take positive steps to encourage it's staff towards productivity and profit - yes profit, particularly from it's sales, then i'm afraid it will fail.

It's That Time of Year

The time when all the PDG 2010 plans have to be submitted to the Regionals and beyond. I hear quite a few have been sent back to DP's with an instruction to raise the forecast Net Profit or face closure. Where this is unachievable the sites are to close and I know of 1 site where this is happening, the doors will be closed for the last time very soon and another empty premises will stand testament to the skills and decision making of the main board. P.S.. How many sites are left, does anyone know?...
