any views - has this bottomed? I'm a god awful investor, truly bad, as such I can only really hope to prosper out of a long term strategy. I put a bit of cash into this fund today with a view to holding for a year or two min. Here's my winning logic. Global Platinum demand has dropped, Electricals, Jewelery and Automotive consumption down, combined with high platinum industry output in 2008 all make for a buyers market, low price etc. BUT - Firstly - Surely the production market will self regulate, I've read a number of mines (both current and planned) in South Africa are not profitable at todays prices, to the extent that planned projects are being shelved, and existing mines are considering the viability of continued production. Reduced output will bolster prices. Secondly - I suspect underlying demand from the auto sector may increase faster than expected as the range of countries and production facilities equipping engines with emission control widens (for example if tighter emission regulation of the Indian/Asian auto market were to become a reality). Thirdly - tech stocks have a rep for heading out of bear territory comparatively faster than other industries during recession, which may imply demand from the electricals industry will recover sooner rather than later... Thanks very much for that update Jimmy. As an aside have you noticed that although the gold and silver ETF (PHGP and PHSP) track each other most of the time there is now quite a wide discrepancy between the two. Tumshie I've held this on and off although mainly I'm in LPMT - it's sister fund. Yes this fund is underwritten by AIG. It was briefly suspended while AIG went through it's trauma and came back online with only eno market maker willing to handle the fund. Shortly after the suspension of the leveraged ETC's was lifted and trading started again I spoke to ETFS directly about the issues of spread and seemingly erratic price fluctuations and they warned me that other market makers would take some weeks to come back on board and that spreads would only gradually come back to normal. I too am puzzled as to what is happening - the price seems very erratic and not consistent with the price of platinum. Is this one of the stocks underwritten by AIG and the market makers don't want to handle it?? I've no idea and no idea how to find out what is going on.
