OMG SPECULATIVE BUY
05/12/2011 Ben Jaglom http://www.growthcompany.co.uk/recommendations/1677558/omg.thtml Technology group OMG has reported a 81.8% slide in profits following the poor performance of its Guardian project. The AIM-quoted concern saw profits sink to £700,000 (£3.7m) on sales of £26.4m (2010: £29.2m) for the year to September. Net cash stood at £2.8m (2010: £6.2m). The dividend stood at 0.3p (2010: 0.3p) The companys Guardian Project was a bizarre collaboration between comic book group Marvel and the National Hockey League of America that saw comic book legend Stan Lee create a superhero for each hockey team. The project had a mixed reception in the US, with many not responding well to the unusual idea. Profits in its Vicon division saw sales fall to £18m (2010: £18.7m) as a result of problems at House of Moves, the group behind the Guardian Project. House of Moves saw sales sink from £4.4m to £2m, reporting a loss of £1.8m (2010: profit of £900,000) In an interview with Growth Company Investor chief executive Nick Bolton described the results as disappointing arguing that despite the plummet in profits Our confidence is shown in the fact that we have maintained our dividend year on year. Bolton also drew attention to the use of Vicons technology in best-selling first person shooter Call of Duty: Black Ops and recent release Call of Duty: MW3, adding that OMG is to use its motion capture technology in a number of videogames in the coming year. Analysts at Daniel Stewart are forecasting pre-tax profits of £3.6m (3.7p) on sales of £29.2m for the year to September 2012. Last recommended by Growth Company Investor this August at 23.75p the shares currently trade at 17.5p. While the company has disappointed of late having sunk from a 2011 peak of 44p. Despite the disastrous Guardian Project we believe OMGs technology holds considerable potential though considerable risk exists. Speculative buy.
