Speedy, the UK's largest tool and equipment hire company, has been awarded a prestigious award by The Green Organisation - an independent, non-profit environment group that recognises and promotes environmental best practice around the world. At a ceremony hosted by The Rt Hon Patricia Hewitt MP, the Green Apple award was presented this week at the House of Commons by international actress Alexandra Bastedo. The win - for its environmentally friendly on-site accommodation unit, the EnviroCabin - makes Speedy the first hire company to be selected for the award. The EnviroCabin was developed by Speedy in partnership with Simons Construction, environmental specialist Frankham Consultancy and a cabin manufacturer as a way of reducing the environmental impact of the construction process. The cabin is now in use with other leading UK construction companies. The award-winning projects will be featured in the next Green Book, the world's only work of reference on environmental best practice. Roger Wolens, national organiser at the Green Apple Awards said: "Speedy was selected for the award both for demonstrating collaborative working to achieve an environmental goal and for the impressive performance of the cabin itself." Mike McGrath, executive director at Speedy said: "The EnviroCabin is a temporary accommodation unit that is designed to the same environmental targets as a permanent commercial building, significantly increasing energy efficiency and therefore reducing costs for end users. "Compared with standard on-site accommodation units, the EnviroCabin offers significant improvements in insulation, water usage and energy efficient lighting and heating. Overall, the unit reduces the carbon footprint of traditional short-term accommodation by more than 50 per cent. "It's fantastic that this project has been recognised with a Green Apple Award. We believe it's vital that the sustainability agenda is tackled at site level which is why our environmental campaign - Getting Greener from the Ground Up - has been designed to help contractors meet their own environmental goals by focussing efforts at a grass roots level." The Green Apple Awards have been running for 16 years and more than 500 nominations were received this year. Last year's award winners include Balfour Beatty, Bam Nuttall and British Gas. The Green Organisation's supporters include the Environment Agency, the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management, the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health and various other professional bodies. well done speedy !!! Hi all,
I held these a while ago before the RI and wanted to buy some once I had some free cash. I did want to get in now and have done all the usual research which suggests that this is a good buy. What I don't understand is why brokers like Panmure Gordon have put a sell reccomendation on this stock and a price target of 24p. I know the H1 revenue has decreased by 20 odd percent but the NAV seems to be the almost the same as the market cap for the last year and I believe they have paid down some more debt. I work in the civil engineering industry and know that it is a good company and should be booming once we're out of the recession. Any thoughts? I must say a big broker with a sell recomendation is the only thing holding me back on these. More | View thread (2) | Respond | Login to Vote up | Login to Vote down |
