Sir Michael Jenkins appointed as Chairman

Matra Petroleum plc (AIM:MTA), the oil and gas E&P company focused on Central Europe and Russia is pleased to announce the appointment of Sir Michael Jenkins as Non-executive Chairman with immediate effect.

Sir Michael retired from the diplomatic service in 1993 when he was British Ambassador to the Netherlands. His time at the foreign office included senior postings in Europe, Washington and Moscow.

During his subsequent business career Sir Michael became Vice-Chairman of Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DKW) and then President of Boeing UK. During his time at DKW, Sir Michael focussed on investment banking and advisory activities in continental Europe (including Russia) as well as on the energy sector.

He is currently a Director of two small, entrepreneurial companies: Geopark Holdings, a South American focused E&P company, and Frontiers Capital, a boutique private equity house.

Commenting on Sir Michael's appointment, Peter Hind, Matra's Managing Director said:

Existing Non-executive Chairman, Craig Burton will stay on in the capacity as Non-executive Director.
