J Sainsbury plc confirms that, further to the announcement made on 17 September 2009, Sir Philip Hampton stepped down as Chairman and as a Director of the Company on 31 October 2009. David Tyler, who was appointed a Non-Executive Director on 1 October 2009, has succeeded him as Chairman from 1 November 2009.
