"Seasoned investors might recall the old adage 'Sell in May and go away, don't come back till St. Leger Day' which advocates selling out of the stockmarket for the slower summer months and returning to the market in the autumn. But should ..."
Is there anyone out there who has any knowledge of the conversion as we asked if would like to take up the option to USD or euro. Would very much appreciate your views on the subject. We have approx 25 days to make decision.
Rich, I agree with your response, this was suppose to do well in trouble times we had plenty of that, these lust been a poor performer. Broker wanted me to sell last year, decided to hold as had read Telegraph recommendation. I'm just breaking even so like would be a seller.
The way I read it is that they are offering to close the fund at near NAV early next year, possibly p***** off like myself that the sp trades well below NAV. I shall be a taker, because this fund has been a major disappointment as far as I am concerned.
Beats FTSE from launch and over last 12mo, but uncorrelated and falls well behind from time to time. It is significant that US treasuries hit 1.86% this week, today 2.2% - in the most "liquid" bond market in the world. Very unusual times and tbh scary to me. Even the best must get whipsawed.
must be short treasuries on basis US rates would rise. :$ did not shift that much week to Friday. So much for doing well when markets cave in. Still, if the big man is on his toes it should do OK and the discount will narrow if/when it proves its worth
It did that to me once, since then I have it on a watch list. I don't think it is a very good trust, although there is some management a***e kicking going on currently I believe, which might explain improving performance. I disapprove of X-ramping, but if you want a hedge fund, have a look at 3rd Point Offshore. Odd thing is it pays dividends gross (about 5%), based in Jersey, but is ISA eligible. DYOR on that. Basically I think it means you only want it if you can put it in an ISA, as the dividend makes a tax hassle.

I've just had a look at the USD and Euro shares of this fund and both have underperformed the sterling version. Something seems to be going seriously wrong here. No doubt, they will still be paying themselves millions.
