I had done some work checking BNKR out and was encouraged by my interpretation of the figures, hopefully it will be a reasonable holding to have.
As I said my worries really stem from their lacksadaiscial back office approach and the trouble I experienced trying to get onto a mailing list for future annual and interim reports. It was not an experience I would recommend but I must try and put that behind me and hopefully look forward to increasing dividends and share price rises over the next few years.
If you look at the charts you will see that BNKR has consistently beaten both the FTSE 100 and 250. Add in record beating dividend rises and this is a very solid holding.
No mistake - just hold this for a long time!
I have just picked up a holding in BNKR and am already thinking I have made a big mistake !
I telephoned the company at Janus Henderson to request being put on their mailing list for Bankers Investment Trust annual and interim reports.
I was told that they do not handle such requests and that I should speak to
Sharecentre who handle everything for Bankers. Sharecentre would not help as I am not a customer of theirs. They told me that they only handle the investment side for Bankers but not their literature so I should speak to them again.
On my next call to Bankers they told me can only order these items on an individual basis and could not add me to any mailing list as they "do not have one!" If I wished to receive future copies I would have to telephone them again each time.
Curiously, then then asked me if they had resolved my problem and I answered "I think you know the answer to that." The gentleman then asked again and pointed out that a "yes" or "no" answer was requird. So I said "No, my problem has not been resolved and I am now wondering why I saw fit to purchase 1,700 shares in your investment trust." Ooohhh, let me put you on hold whilst I make enquiries."
Eventually he came back and said that he would make a request to his "Head Office(?)" for me to be added to the mailing list for future interim and annual reports, asked again whether they had resolved my problem I could only say "yes, but only if the reports actually start to arrive."
All this took me 50 minutes from my original telephone call!
I can only hope that the performance of Bankers Investment Trust is better than the performance of its back office staff!!

"The Questor Column:
A dividend-focused global trust to buy, and a widely held rival that remains a sell: Its hard to dislike an investment that has paid an increasing income every year for half a century, especially when it is available at an appreciable discount to the value of its underlying assets. The 50-year record of rising dividends has recently been achieved at Bankers investment trust, which dates back to 1888. The portfolio trades at a discount of about 8% to its underlying asset value.
Among the trusts other advantages are quarterly dividend payments, a low annual charge and a history of outperformance. The payment in 2013 was 14.13p, rising to 14.8p in 2014, 15.8p in 2015 and 17p last year. This year the board has signalled a likely rise of about 6% to 18p and Mr Holder said that, given the long record of increases, the board would do anything not to cut the dividend.
We would happily recommend it even if it were trading at par relative to the value of its assets, so the current discount offers a pleasing opportunity. Questor says Buy."
