times are tough for DS. Seems no floor to the share price drop. I hate to admit, but I think, the next half is going to be loss making again because AIM is not doing well and doesn't seem to much action. The Middle East acquisition doesn't seem to be any useful, even the website is amateur and non-elaborative. I am 75% down on these shares.

Not as well as they were suggesting in their pre - close statement. Always jam tomorrow with these people. The market remains as unimpressed as I am.

Thought these results were pretty good considering the fact the market is pretty bad
At least DS have got a decent wealth management unit and that is increasing in size significantly, useful to have considering institutions are not supporting mid cap brokers at the moment, least DS have some private wealth to support them Group revenues increased to £8.8m (2011: £8.4m) Reported profit after tax of £0.5m (2011: £1.0m); profit per share of 0.09p (2011: 0.21p) Not bad i thought. Liquidity remains strong. Cash at year end of £1.1m (2010: £2.4m), Client numbers: 53 (down from 60 at year end 2011), with 37 transactions completed retail and wealth management division doubled to in excess of £250 million (up from £125 million), Strong performance from our Far East operation, Corporate Bond product launched for SMEs |

"share price performance is terrible." As are today's results - unfortunately for me as a battered and beaten shareholder sick of jam tomorrow promises as well as their pathetic excuses -, you may well laugh at his one: "the olympics."

today, Numis, Cenkos and Panmure posted encouraging results, which each seeing profitablity going up. Hopefully this trend is not at the expanse of DAN and DAN can show similar results. DAN is as usual very quite on the RNS side. Share price performance is terrible.

"Daniel Stewart have a global reach and are making big strides in Asia......I bet they will even turn a profit on their next financials"

Orchard gate makes a good point
The brokerage industry is in a mess, that is if you are a London broker, no US or Asia presence, and do not have 300 million stg of private wealth under management I think these guys have go to get their message out, they are making a profit, they have a great private client wealth book, they have a great board and sales team, good analysts and good deal flow. I can think of loads of brokerages in London that would love to be in Daniel Stewarts position Problem is they are getting dragged down like the rest of the market |

The update today was quite positive. I am glad to know they are making profit. It took my shareholding to the gree with today's slight increase in av share price.
Apart from the large number of shares in issue, there seems to be mostly positive for DAS. Consolidation in the broker and advisor business will either seem them being swalled or get new business as competitors disappear. GL |

I agree it does seem odd, but I suspect that to purchase that sort of quantity in the market would have shifted the price too much. It seems that even fairly small purchases can move the sp at the moment, I must admit that i have decided to take an initial stake this morning as I think the next set of results could surprise to the upside. The management seemed very confident in their last accounts and this latest purchase by Jade demonstrates considerable confidence in the future. I can only assume that they know something not widely known in the market at the moment. Could be a hidden gem...... I hope!

Recently visited China and India and word on the street is that both Indian and Chinese based corporate finance and stockbroking firms are on the acquisition trail. Suggest Daniel Stewart would be a strong candidate target given the way the way there are fast racking their network across Asia and the USA. DS have cornered the market for OTCQX and given the strength of their knowledge within this area i am firm on them being on the acquisition radar of a number of Asian brokers. Would say they are currently undervalued given their global footprint and upside potential as the equities markets pick up.

Small caps: By Keyur Patel http://on.ft.com/vFBjDX Daniel Stewart was in focus on word that Jade Investment, a pre-flotation investor for companies in China and South East Asia, had picked up a 4 per cent stake. Jade Investment also appointed Daniel Stewart, unchanged at 1p, to lead its plans to float on Aim in the first quarter of 2012. Jade also wants to co-brand with the stockbroker to help bring Chinese companies to the London market. |

Daniel Stewart swings to profit
30/08/2011 Miles Nolan http://www.growthcompany.co.uk/news/1650563/daniel-stewart-swings-to-profit.thtml Broking firm Daniel Stewart (DAN) has reported a welcome return to the black, buoyed by its efforts to expand in new market sectors. Well known for its work in the small cap market in London, the broker has shifted its emphasis globally. One area that is doing particularly well is the provision of advisory services to overseas companies which are seeking a listing on the OTCQX market in New York. Recent entrants to this new but 'highly liquid market' include Marks & Spencer and Adidas, however Daniel Stewart advised on the listing across the pond of well traded oil explorer Gulf Keystone (GKP). It has also shifted into the bond market, helping to advise Sportingbet on its recent $65 million bond raise - a further three offers in the $50 - $150 million range are also on the blocks. The Wealth Management arm is gaining traction and has now surpassed £150 million under management, largely buoyed by UK investors it is also winning new mandates in the Middle East. In the year to March sales soared 236 per cent to £8.5 million as pre-tax profits came in at £1.1 million (2010: £2.9 million loss). The AIM counter now has 60 corporate clients and helped to raise £107 million during the year, the first quarter of 2011 has got off to a good start with a further £34 million raised. The balance sheet is strong with cash balances up 85 per cent to £2.4 million. Speaking to Growth Company Investor chief executive Peter Shea said 'we have widened our net in terms of product and the range of investors we are now targeting.' To this end the office in Kuala Lumpur helped advise on seven London listings, there is also the likelihood that a joint-venture in Hong Kong will be tied up shortly. Daniel Stewart also has a couple of potential IPO's from Russia up its sleeve, one in healthcare, the other in agriculture. Further growth in profits is expected this year, however the share price has proved lacklustre - up 7 per cent to 1.475p this morning. Worth a punt. I bought ECTWO shares back then too. They were taken over by DAN a few years after, rising up to in excess of 20p. I managed to sell at 13p in the mid 2000s but got in again recently at 2p. You should be on the Shareholder Reigister so I'd suggest getting in touch with the company who can put you onto the Registrars (I hold my current shares in a SIPP so don't know who the registrar is).

DS mentioned in their trading statement that:
"they are winning mandate to advise Jimmy Choo on a potential £500 million bid for the fashion house he founded" Too bad Jimmy Choo couldn't buy it, probably wasn't able to raise the funding. The company went to German Labelux. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13499644 DS could have made huge money from this sizable transaction, but I guess too soon to shoot that high. |

People: No rest for Villa
06/04/2011 Robert Tyerman Alfredo Villa, the ambitious Swiss-based Italian fund manager now heading idiosyncratic investment outfit Brainspark, is getting busy as he seeks to turn the little-understood AIM company into a leisure operating company. His plans include bringing a London-based fund into the companys Mediapolis Italian theme park in a £45 million share deal, perhaps involving an Italian property magnate, and selling or floating another Italian venture, the Bebop media concern, in a deal he hopes will value it at £10 million to £20 million. The indefatigable Villa, who took former China play Brainspark into stockbroker Daniel Stewart and then out of it again, intends to arrange a float for another Italian investment, cash-rich Ora Hotels, big in Italy, Dubai, Mozambique and Madagascar, and has a reverse deal in mind for fellow AIM counter Indian Restaurants Group, in which Brainspark bought a key stake last year. The rabbit in the hat is a theme park venture in China. Villa, who has parted amicably but without regret from Brainsparks former chairman, Professor Francesco Gardin, and recently saw off a winding-up petition from a former business associate called Giamascio, says his goal is to buy cheaply and then realise the value of Brainsparks investments. The shares are out of favour just now, but, he suggests, if we get an outrageous offer, we might sell. Alastair Winter from Daniel Stewart says overseas earnings are key for companies
Friday, April 08, 2011 Alastair Winter, chief economist at Daniel Stewart & Co., tells Proactive Investors that companies with overseas earnings are in a good position to weather the economic problems. Alastair is not expecting an interest rate rise from the Bank of England until later in the year. http://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/stocktube/716/alastair-winter-from-daniel-stewart-says-overseas-earnings-are-key-for-companies-716.html New £5 frequent trader rate - trade UK shares, investment trusts and ETFs |
