"The results announced today were reasonably good. Why is there such a large drop in price?"
My best guess is sentiment. The market had probably priced in faster revenue growth than the company subsequently delivered. Don't worry though, IHG has an excellent business model which comprises a diversified asset light global revenue stream. An opportunity to top-up perhaps?(!).
"Dow Jones and S&P 500The job of being a goatherd, high on a hill, is fraught with danger and loneliness, along with the ever-present echo of that Mary Poppins woman singing her heart out. And, as always, nearing the top of a hill, a whimsical ..."
This petition was stalled in parliament since 12th Aug 15; finally green lit on 12th feb 2016.
The FCA don't even reply on the matter, now is your chance to have your say.
If you hate seeing buys reported as sells etc!!!!!!
Has already been sent to Martin Lewis, Daily Mail, Moneyweek & Watchdog.
My local MP supported this petition by writing to the petitions committee to help un-stall it.
Theres 650 MPs in Westminster, So have you written to your MP? 649 to go!
If this petition doesnt reach 10,000; then imo we might as well have not bothered as it will almost certainly be filed B1N; @ 10,000 the government should respond. We are currently getting approx. 100 new signatures a week, but need 3x that amount to reach the target with only 15 weeks to go.
So If you havent yet signed or indeed have but havent passed it on to others, then nows the time to do so. If each person who has signed can get just one other person to sign then we will double the total immediately. I have posted to all aim listed gas n oilies, currently doing the footsy 100. But I can only do so much to push this. Really need you guys & gals to help. Thanks to all who have signed so far.
We really need a social / media savvy individual to help generate more interest in this.
I had 720 shares on the 6th and 600 odd on the 9th However the special dividend has not been paid to me but I have a notification telling me 0.001 p has been credited to my account which it has.has anyone any idea why this would be Thanks in advance
<< Can anyone explain in laymans terms what happed to this today? It is down £5 odds on one page yet up on an other.Have the shares lost value today. Thanks in advance >>
I believe they went ex the special dividend of $6.329 today. The sp wouldn't have moved much due to this because they've carried out a 5 for 6 share consolidation at the same time so holders now own less shares as a result.
Read Panmure Gordon & Co's note on INTERCONTINENTAL HOTELS GROU (IHG), out this morning, by visitinghttps://www.research-tree.com/company/GB00BN33FD40
"IHG released a Q1 trading update showing a slowdown in RevPAR growth to +1.5%. While this is partially due to the distortion of Easter timing and so should reverse in Q2, several markets are also subdued by weak oil markets (management says). More rooms were removed (8k) than added (5k) which needs further explanation but the company reported solid growth in net system size + 2.7% (742k rooms) and pipeline continues to build with 15K rooms signed bringing the pipeline to 220k with 45% under construction. With the $1.5bn cash return imminent, our..."
If so, then expect further rises and if there is nothing too it, as several times in the past 2 or 3 years, IHT will make an RNS denying any approach. They normally do this quite quickly (a day or two).
You can research that by looking at RNSs and comparing to chart. I remember one went over a bank holiday Monday once, if that helps pin it down a little.
It is on such rumours I usually sell. Shame I sold early this last time! (I never seem to get a chance to buy more than one tranche with this company).
""""""The large hotel groups, which survived the downturn after the financial crisis by selling off property and becoming primarily hotel managers rather than owners, have been racing to add scale and consolidate.
Marriott bought Starwood for $12.2bn, while Accor took over the owner of the Fairmont, Raffles and Swissotel hotel chains for $2.9bn at the end of last year. Last week, Hilton announced it was to spin off much of its property into a real estate investment trust.
They are also having to spend to placate investors. InterContinental Hotels Group recently announced a $1.5bn special dividend, while Marriott and Starwood both tried to lower expectations for this year by cutting their forecast for revpar growth.""""""
Ex Div 31 March according to ii fundamentals tab. I'm sure there have been more special dividends than ii shows, but perhaps not. I may be getting mixed up, I lost all my notes on the company including the details of past trades.
As I said, I tend to trade the sp movement rather than wait around for dividends, although I have picked up the odd one or two. They are always worth having when you get them, but of course the price tends to drop when they go ex div so the trade takes longer.
I've invested in a number of hotel chains over the last 20 years and they always seem to get taken over. No bad thing for the investor, of course. With IHG there always seems to be a rumour around sooner or later that shoots the sp up. That is the time to sell, because they are pretty quick to release an RNS to nix it in my experience.
I usually take 5% + if I can get that over a month, 10% plus over 3 months. I don't think I ever held them longer than that - although I've only traded them over the last 2-3 years (seems a lot longer!).
Good luck. If you do get stuck holding after an sp drop, by the way, don't panic, because they pay good dividends and they are a top notch company anyway, or were last time I did the research which was a while ago now, and I assume they still are by the way the sp keeps coming back like a pendulum.
Wish I could say the same for some of the other stocks I'm holding that have swung to the downside over the last 6-12 months!
I have been in and out these over many years, my first holding came in the 1960s when I was holding Watneys and Grang Met took them Max Joseph was running them at the time. This company has changed a lot from those days Sheppard was the man who made the big changes. I doing very nicely at present long may it continue, when do they go ex div?
I first bought under 2000p, sold about 25% up. Since then I just keep trading in and out of it, every so often catching a nice divi too. Great share.
Every time it falls back below about @2300p I look to re-buy, then a rumour of a take-over starts and it shoots up again in no time, then I sell and wait to get back in again next time. I hope I haven't put the mockers on it now!
I'm not in at the moment, I didn't know anyone was reading this board anymore. I'll post next time I buy.
Games, "I applaud your enthusiasm Eadwig, but isn't it so that IHG is at or close to a 5 year high? It traded at 475p in 2009 and it's now 1926 - that's a share price growth of 305%, I appreciate that special dividends have been thrown off due to asset sales, but surely that is a one way bet. "
One year later (13 months actually) we're north of 2700. Shame I sold for a quick 20% profit,
Still on my shopping list to get back in on another significant pullback, I missed last October, mainly because i was buying elsewhere, but also greedily wanted the drop to go further. I would have been better off paying more here than the HSBA and CNA shares I weent for.
This is STILL a stellar company with the best management in the business. Best of breed, in my opinion.
"Asset disposals hit reported revenue and profit at LSE:IHG:Intercontinental Hotels in 2014, although the numbers were in line with City forecasts. Macro-economic and geo-political tensions are, however, set to remain, and the shares look as ..."
What absolute nonsense this TipTV is. It's incredibly annoying to have to sit through a 30 second advert followed by more than a minute of introductions, then another 5-10 minutes of rambling before anything is said about IHG. When it finally gets there it simply repeats a few already well known facts about IHG. I don't think they even tipped it one way or the other.
Someone should call time on TipTV if not only to stop wasting other peoples time.
