Anyone that can put two and two together can clearly see that:

a) Without government intervention then RBS would have been long gone by now

b) If RBS don't perform in the future then it is practically a certainty that nationalisation is their destiny

Therefore I am wondering what your point is GatorHex when you mention the bailout. The key point now is to discern whether RBS can perform in the future. Now as far as I'm concerned I see positivity in the new approach to RBS' strategy in moving forward. Hester has laid out his cards on the table and allowed the shareholers to make their minds up, and it seems that the shareholders want to back this bank because they know that the future rewards in the timescale of two-three years outweighs the risks. The books are beginning to balance and that is what counts at this stage. I personally believe that as long as RBS can drum up enough business and investment when moving forward then they will be successful in living on.
