At first glance I agree LKH the headline seems to totally contradict the figures! I think Weirs press release team need to think more about their wording! Looking into the statement Jan - March 2012 were higher than Jan - March 2013, but Sept to Dec 2012 was much lower than this quarters, so basically they could have said we are coming out of a significant dip in sales at the end of 2012 but the the future order book looks rosey so we are keeping our forecast of single digit growth for the year! LK - "Blimey, they say that trading has been resilient, but it looks absolute pants to" Didn't impress me much either, although we get these dramatic ups and downs in orders and revenues. I'd make a lousy analyst as I read between the lines and pick on bits that I would like to have seen a bit more clarity on, such as:- "Net debt at 29 March 2013 was higher than that reported at 28 December 2012, primarily reflecting completion of the acquisition of Mathena, Inc and the R Wales group of companies and the translation of US dollar denominated debt." I would say that the amount of new business to come from fracking in the UK will be very small potatoes compared to the level of business done in the USA. What I think is more significant is that apart from Weir, there are no UK manufacturing businesses left in this field, they are all now US owned (just try to find a UK manufacturer of LNG (or oil) pumps and valves, Weir is on its own).
