PS: apologies for wrong link in previous post. Lateness of the hour, but also that I've had that clip on my word-processor due to some recent wind-up banter on a football forum about Pulis's replacement (recently sacked by Stoke).

SBK,
I'm a big fan of VU & Lou Reed. Must have over 90% of all he's ever released, inc that linked. In fact, my first ever VU buy, over 10 yrs after its release, sometime in the late 70s when still at school. Great times, even when one listened to it straight, which was rare. As excellent as that linked Warhol collaboration with VU & Nico is (timeless, IMO), in some respects, he got even better after kicking alcohol & drugs in the 1980s, by then, probably a life or death decision. For eg. albums like Ecstasy, Magic & Loss & New York. One of many great tracks from latter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylftUmF-GSw Wishbone Ash made some decent music, but a lot of it eluded me. Maybe I'm not too old yet to take a closer look sometime. Must say, some of these older bands make a lot of modern stuff (with exceptions) sound even worse than they usually do. That never bodes well. That's one of the problems with age, even before one's 50. There comes a point when one has already heard most of the best music, read most of the best literature, seen the great paintings, watched the best movies (some times over), heard most opinions, etc. What's left? Actually, lots. Just don't rely on others all the time. Instead, write, learn to paint, play an instrument, create... just don't try getting your kicks by gambling too much, too often, on stuff you know too little about. - Message to self. Regards! PS: re Comp, I'm predicting a podium finish for you this time round. |

"Anyway, still good to see JD south of my position, Vtec & the blue on the hard shoulder and Hydranger at the bottom of the plant pot."
======================================= SBK, Don't worry about me. My race is finally run as regards winning another Comp. Frankly, just here to make up the numbers & OT banter. IMO, the Vtec engine has been finely tuned... at last. A lot of fine work has no doubt gone in that, not least on TA side. IMO, you may be not too far off this time, esp if markt continues selling off. Of no help at all to Comp entrants, but a consideration for existing longs linked below, thanks to poster, jamesthetrain on UKX BB. Though some concern is never a bad thing, long or short, whatever the climate, keep in mind that US is also on holiday on Monday, due to Memorial Day. http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php?id=chart_school:trading_strategies:the_pre-holiday_effe By the by: re my spread betting. When markets started turning south in 2010, I felt like some 1 armed boxer in this game. Hence SB account opened in 02/2011. Despite my declared losses (nearly 80% in that one account), my 5 year target was to find out if I could be a trader. No point in quitting now, or refusing to accept further losses. How else will one learn? This game is brutal, but get it right & the rewards are vast. Not least, the relative freedom associated with trading. I expect to continue until at least 1st March, 2014. GL with the longs ONLY approach. If you aren't making VG money in this recent bullish climate, when will you? All the best & I hope you have VG break! Offline for the long weekend - up to London.
Let's see what next week brings. This week echoes the mid-April fall of just over a month ago. It remains to be seen if markets recover or continue to fall - anybody's guess. Long weekend in US as well (Memorial Day holiday I think). Whatever, all (and I mean everybody) enjoy the weekend - sun shining. Cheers, RAC |

Cash destruction....
People seem to crave more QE but this is really theft under a different name. "Wealth" ( the ability to buy something ) can be created with increased productivity but not by printing money, even though that is the perception by many. Printing money (QE) simply REDISTRIBUTES WEALTH but does not increase the NET WEALTH of a country of people. The US, UK and now Japan have gone down a route of "stealing" from the cash rich and giving to the debt ridden. This is in an attempt to redistribute wealth and clear the debts of those highly leveraged ( including companies, banks, consumers, speculators... ). So in this scenario there are winners and losers. The government wants to bail out the country and this means bailing out highly leveraged organisations ( primarily banks ) and highly leveraged people ( primarily mortgage holders ). The method of printing money effectively reduces their debts in one fell swoop, and continual pumping of QE reduces debt in steps. The method of the government buying long dated bonds/gilts also reduces debt burdens again to take the pressure off mortgage holders ( and supports house prices ). So the banks and mortgage holding people have their wealth increased in real terms but just about everyone else has their wealth reduced in real terms. This wealth reduction is in the form of rising prices ( cash is devalued by the printing presses i.e. inflation ) and savers have their income reduced by the government buying long dated gilts and decreasing yields. In Europe, they have taken a slightly different approach, as the Germans do not want to print money - so Europeans have great austerity and in the case of Cyprus the cash accounts of many have been raided by the government. In either case ( QE ) or austerity (with bank accounts being raided) the actual wealth of SAVERS is reduced, with the wealth of highly leveraged banks and mortgage holding people increased. This is a concerted strategy by the worlds governments to solve the world debt problem by taking "wealth" from savers and giving the wealth to borrowers, so eventually world leveraging can be reduced. In an earlier post I suggested moving to CASH ........yes this has been destroyed deliberately by governments over the last 5 years but I think we are near the end ( with the exception of Japan which has just started on this road ). The result will be a higher dollar, weaker yen, stronger Euro ...currencies are obviously relative to each other but the trends will now move in this direction. Stock markets, commodities and assets have been the main beneficiery of the QE strategy as their prices are inflated as the value of money falls, but I think now is time to be careful when buying any asset. Just athought for Sunday!! .....but time to be careful in these markets Barcap |

Evening TDL, yep I,m a little disappointed with today, I expected some kind of rally even if it was just a relief rally but I haven,t quite given up, not yet. On the plus side we have a nice positive divergence on the 1,2,& 3h charts. We also have seasonality in that the week after a holiday weekend in the US tends to be bullish. I also have volume today at approx. 87% of d20SMA vs 134% yesterday, ie a low vol down day which suggests to me a weakening in the bear case!
That said and on the flip side I have to go with my summation indices which both now say dump or hedge. So its probably pertinent to mention that in the past week or so I have actually dumped most of my CFD positions, all in profit, to lighten up just in case this pullback turns into something more vicious. It would be most unusual for the $NYSI to now turn up at this point which dictates that the best we can hope for is sideways chop. First thing this morning I cut PNN, ESSR and my covering short from 6795, mainly because I no longer needed the covering short and I expected to see my FTSE rise from which I could re-enter a new position! So much for best laid plans and all that! Finally, the 3 cases out of 9 that were red the day after an oversold day on the FTSE tended to mark a definite and protracted sell off with %K (STO) on FTSI moving to 0 and the FTSE losing quite a few points. But we all know what stats are and how the past is not a reliable indicator of the future!! Last w/e I mentioned that i thought the more rampant stock would sell off while the laggards would catch up but I had no idea how this would pan out for the cap weighted index. I still think thats the play and thats what we are seeing. So while I have still not given up on my green day, perhaps delayed because we were heading into a holiday w/e, I am now positioned to wait until my next buy signal (%K on SI turning up from 0). Trust you are winning. ATB, Sin |

Well sin, we didn't get our positive close on the FTSE. Must admit, I was expecting this too. Now look at the weekly candle...especially that topping tail! There's a huge potential RSI divergence as well. The US charts are not as bearish as the FTSE, but I'm going with the FTSE here. Despite the consensus predicting up, I say down in the next few weeks...and it could be something more serious if Japan kicks off IMVHO. I recall in 2008 loads of pundits saying that the Banking crisis showed that we needed more institutions like the Co-op. And that horrible politician Shirley Williams on "Any Questions" saying that she kept her savings in the good old Post Office (AKA The Bank of Ireland - another crock). The safest strategy for savers these days is to spend all their money on good times and then die. IMHO, SBK |

I did a return with my phone about 6 to 8 years back under the 14 days rules but did it 10 minutes after signing the contract because of misselling after getting the phone and further paper work. Can't recall the actual problem but could be along the lines of cash back rewards. Manager was upset. It was with a certain mobile retail chain. I think I was also banned from getting new contracts from the chain after that because of failing background check. It was impossible as I had only good credit records so deduced the reason by process of elimination, however improbable, whatever remains must be the reason.
So I am sure you can still use the 14 days clause along with distant selling regulations. Go get the android nexus 4. It is awesome. My older nexus survived kids, being thrown around, and I keep getting OS updates all the time. The Google phone is just awesome and its ecosystem too. Can't see not use nexus 4. Web searching? Google. Web browsing? Google. Email? Google. Storage? Google. Pictures? Google. Maybe if you say apple to all of above, then get the iPhone and be trendy. |
