I'd like to heartily thank Monty, badnews and alkelhine for their excellent advice.

I've had a devil of a job trying to find out the true costs with some of these fund schemes, once I got past finding out the annual management charge. Some have admin fees, legal fees, distribution fees and when you get beyond that lot there are dealing costs, entry and exit fees , known as front-end and back-end loads, and some have performance fees. They don't want to talk about all this stuff and adopt the attitude if you have to ask how much it costs, you can't afford it.

I'm so disillusioned that I'm going to do my own thing, I just don't trust the fund managers, I feel this could be the next big financial scandal.

I've decided on HSBC Holdings for my banking share, I will just buy it as part of my own portfolio and leave fund managers out of the equation.

Now I'm going to turn my research to the pharmaceutical sector, if you have a particular favourite in that sector please feel free to flag it up.

Many thanks again for your kind help.

Lola
