Article layout: raw

COPENHAGEN (Thomson Financial) - Shares were lower midmorning led by index-heavy Vestas Wind Systems AS following overnight losses on Wall Street, but Carlsberg AS traded higher, while Danisco AS outperformed following a broker upgrade.

At 10.35 am, the OMXC20 index was down 1.12 pct at 486.22 and the OMXCB Benchmark index shed 1.07 pct to 463.70.

Vestas Wind Systems AS fell 2.29 pct to 511.00.

Carlsberg AS gained 0.62 pct to 648.00. Daily Boersen said, citing The Scotsman, that the British Takeover Panel may intervene in the brewer's and Heineken NV's attempt to take over Scottish & Newcastle PLC if the process gets too long-winded.

Danisco AS was flat at 384.00 after Goldman Sachs raised its rating for the sugar and ingredients maker to 'neutral' from 'sell' on valuation grounds.

The brokerage raised its target price for Danisco to 407 dkr from 390 dkr.

William Demant AS was down 0.57 pct at 435.50 and GN Store Nord AS shed 0.93 pct to 42.60, as Swiss hearing-aid making peer Sonova AG reported a consensus-beating first half result and increasing market share.

Lundbeck AS was down 0.86 pct at 143.75 ahead of tomorrow's third quarter report.

Analysts polled by RB Boersen expect the pharmaceutical company to post a pretax profit of 916 mln dkr, up 45 pct from a year earlier, and a sales increase of 27 pct to 2.845 bln dkr, driven in particular by rising sales of depression treatment Lexapro.

IC Companys AS added 0.28 pct to 358.00, Neurosearch AS fell 0.83 pct to 356.50 and Royal Unibrew AS was down 0.49 pct at 615.00 ahead of their respective quarterly reports, due tomorrow. gustav.sandstrom@thomson.com gs/jag
