Article layout: raw

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Carnegie Minerals Plc. said its project manager Charlie Northfield is still detained on bail in Gambia and added that defending the group represents a serious drain on its financial and manpower resources.

On Feb. 18, the Gambian police had detained Northfield, over allegations that the company has been commercially mining titanium, iron ore and uranium from its mineral sands licence in Gambia.

In a statement on Monday, the mineral resource company said work on the environmental impact assessment on the Niafarang mineral sands deposit in southern Senegal is continuing well and according to plan.

The group added its cash balance is currently 150,000 pounds and said it is seeking the necessary additional funding to support its ongoing efforts and have it in place by October. TFN.newsdesk@thomson.com npr/ejp
