Wall St drop, softer oil seen hitting Thai shares
Article layout: raw

BANGKOK, Nov 7 (Reuters) - Thai stocks are expected to fall on Friday, with a drop on the U.S. market overnight and falling oil prices stoking fears of a deepening global recession, dealers said.

Most stocks in Asia were lower in early trade after Wall Street suffered its worst two-day slide since October 1987 and oil fell to around $60 a barrel due to fears of a spreading economic downturn.

Among the stocks to watch, Cal-Comp Electronics, a unit of Taiwan's Kinpo Electronics, is scheduled to release third-quarter results after the midday break.

Analysts expected the company to report a net profit of 900 million baht ($25.7 million) for the quarter. Others in the sector have cut earnings forecast due to concerns about the impact of the U.S. economic downturn.

"The market is still generally really weak and I guess we are still going to see more consolidation," KTB Securities strategist Supakorn Sujirattanavimol said.

"People can't do much but to trade selectively and cautiously," Supakorn said, expecting resistance on the main index at 470 and support at 447 and 424.

On Thursday, the index edged up 1.22 percent to 462.93, buoyed by gains in energy blue chips and banking shares. Foreigners, however, offloaded Thai shares worth a net 1.81 million baht. ($1=34.97 Baht)
