TABLE-S.Lanka's trade deficit narrows to $166.7 mln in April

COLOMBO, June 22 (Reuters) - Sri Lanka's external trade deficit narrowed 75.9 percent to $166.7 million in April from $690.2 million a year earlier, the Central Bank said on Monday.

  • By April's end, Sri Lanka's gross official reserves were at $1.296 billion sufficient to finance 1.2 month of imports, marginally up from $1.27 billion a month ago, and down from $2.99 billion at the end of 2008.

  • For the first four months of 2009, Sri Lanka's trade deficit narrowed by 61.5 percent to $806.1 million, compared with a deficit of $2.09 billion a year ago.
