U.S. stock market report 1157 ET 14Aug2009-Phillips Van-Heusen rises after upgrade ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phillips-Van Heusen shares rose on Friday after J.P. Morgan Securities upgraded the stock to "overweight" from "neutral" and raised its price target to $37 from$27.

The firm cited margin expansion potential and global growth opportunities at its Calvin Klein brand, which Deutsche believes could drive mid-teen earnings per share growth after 2009.

Phillips shares rose 2.5 percent to $34.47. Rivals Polo Ralph Lauren Corp slipped 1.8 percent to $65.73 while Oxford Industries Inc shed 3.9 percent to $13.80.

VanceInfo Technologies Inc rose 6.4 percent to $16.21 on the New York Stock Exchange on Friday after company posted second-quarter results that topped Wall Street estimates and boosted its full-year outlook.

The information technology and software development services company reported second-quarter adjusted earnings of 14 cents a share on revenue of $34.6 million, above Wall Street estimates of 11 cents a share and $31.5 million in revenue.

For the full year 2009, VanceInfo raised its adjusted earnings outlook to between 53 cents to 55 cents a share on revenue of at least $140 million.

The average estimates of analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters for the full year is for 48 cents a share and $130.8 million in revenue.

Cowen and Co initiated coverage of EMC Corp with an "outperform" rating and said the world's top data storage equipment maker will increase market share as IT spending trends toward a new normal of stable but tight budgets and a focus on fewer vendors.

"The company has consistently refreshed its two major storage platforms and has consolidated technology to drive growth in smaller, emerging areas of storage," the brokerage said in a note to clients.

Shares of EMC fell 0.7 percent to $15.12 on Friday.

September crude futures fell on Friday, giving up earlier gains after the release of consumer confidence data that was weaker than expected.

The contract slid 2.8 percent to $68.55 per barrel while the S&P Energy index dropped 2.1 percent to 384.50.

Shares of NCI Building Systems Inc rallied on Friday, after it said a fund managed by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice has agreed to invest $250 million in the company. The company also expects to be profitable in the third quarter.

The company, a maker of metal building components and systems, said the investment will address its significant near-term debt repayment obligations and help reduce its debt by $323 million.
