Article layout: raw

SEATTLE, Nov 3 (Reuters) - U.S. trucking and logistics company Con-way Inc posted a lower-than-expected quarterly profit on Tuesday, hurt by weak demand and pricing pressure, and its shares fell 3.4 percent in after-hours trade.
The San Mateo, California-based company posted a net profit of $13.5 million or 27 cents per share, compared to a net profit of $38.8 million or 81 cents per share a year earlier.
Excluding certain items, its profit of 39 cents per share fell below analysts' average expectation for 52 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Total revenue fell to $1.13 billion from $1.37 billion a year ago.
Con-way said it expects weak demand, excess capacity and pricing pressures to persist in the near term, hurting its prospects for earnings growth.
Its shares, which closed at $32.62 on the New York Stock Exchange, fell to $31.51 in after-hours trade.
