U.S. stock market report 1021 EST 12Nov2009-FreeSeas shares soar on new loan ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shares of FreeSeas Inc rallied on Thursday, after the company secured a new term loan and obtained an extension of loan-covenant waivers.

The new secured seven-year term loan of up to $27.8 million from First Business Bank S.A. of Greece refinances the company's existing $21.75 million loan on the Free Impala, it said.

Teekay Offshore Partners on Thursday said it had signed a $260 million revolving credit facility secured by a floating production and storage unit.

The unit had been bought from Teekay Corp, its parent company.

Teekay Offshore said a portion of the facility will be used to repay $160 million of $220 million vendor financing provided by Teekay Corp at the time of acquisition of the unit.

U.S. markets opened lower on Thursday, pressured as a stronger U.S. dollar weighed on commodity prices, which hurt stocks of natural resource and energy companies.

The Dow Jones industrial average was down 15.19 points, or 0.15 percent, at 10,276.07. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down 2.32 points, or 0.21 percent, at 1,096.19. The Nasdaq Composite Index was down 1.31 points, or 0.06 percent, at 2,165.59.

Intel Corp and Advanced Micro Devices Inc are announcing on Thursday a wide-ranging settlement of their dispute over competitive and licensing issues, according to sources familiar with the matter.

Shares of AMD surged 30 percent to $6.91 in premarket trading while Intel, a Dow component, was halted at $19.78.

Rochdale Securities analyst Richard Bove on Thursday wrote that Citigroup Inc could take four to six years to divest its Citi Holdings unit, saying it "seems certain" that the division would be eliminated.

Bove wrote that the unit was a drag on the earnings performance of the entire company, and that it cost Citigroup $23 billion to $30 billion annually.

AOL, a unit of Time Warner Inc, on Thursday said it expects to take $200 million in restructuring charges after its planned spin-off from Time Warner.

The unit said it would incur substantially all of the charges from the date of the spin-off, due to take place in the current quarter, and through the first half of 2010.
