MARKET SNAPSHOTS
Malaysia's benchmark index fell 0.1 percent on Wednesday, with
financial firm AMMB down 2.4 percent and telecoms firm
Maxis up 1.9 percent.
U.S. stocks rose in light trading volume on Wednesday,
supported by data that pointed to stabilization in the labor and
housing markets, areas that have fed concerns about a "double
dip" recession.
Crude oil prices settled near $78 a barrel on Wednesday, supported by lower-than-expected builds in U.S. oil inventories last
week, a weak U.S. dollar and gains on Wall Street.

Malaysian crude palm oil scored 15-week highs on Wednesday,
supported by speculation rainy weather will hit output, but ended
back from those highs on slowing export growth as reported by
cargo surveyors.

The Philippine peso led Asian currencies higher on Wednesday
against a broadly weaker dollar, while Vietnam's central bank
surprised the market by announcing its third currency devaluation
since mid-2008.
Vietnam's stock market hit a three-month low on Wednesday after
the central bank raised interest rates and devalued the currency
but Thailand rose nearly 3 percent on relief an anti-government
protest was postponed.
