Re: Happy 2012

After opening my on-line account with iii in February 2008, I eagerly browsed the ST’s financial pages each week and, a couple of months later, spotted their tip for this company, in a small paragraph.

Sounded wonderful as a prospect and a bit of a punt after buying a few blue chips. So I purchased a, thankfully, very modest number at . . . . . . 832p!! 4 years this month. How long do I have to wait before they even BEGIN to approach that?

Do I wish I’d bought a few extra BA (as was) or GSK instead? No!

Thanks for the replies, I think this share will eventually start to recover but at the moment I am rather glad I don't hold any.
Not that I'm gloating by the way as I could show you some of my actual purchases that are far, far worse than Air Partner.
Good luck anyway and I will keep my eye on this one. By OilPrince

Re: Happy 2012

Everyone points out the positives with AIP, alas we are not in a positive trading enviroment for air charter, and the figures and outlook reflect that. This year we have the Olympics which will give a filip to profits (potentially) next year we have an increase in passenger tax, which will prove a potential ++ for charter companies as they will not pay it. I assume that corporate travel by a group of employees will be exempt if a hire aircraft is used, and not a scheduled flying machine.
I will investigate further on this issue!!! By churjones

Happy 2012

Well it looks like I'll be the first to post this year! I am here after finding this rec. on the FT website by a gentleman named John Lee
This was his rationale in choosing his picks-:

"Friends of mine – a recently retired professional couple – recently asked me if I would suggest an investment portfolio for them, utilising £35,000 they had available. I established that through pensions and other savings they were financially secure, and were prepared to take a five to ten-year view – while accepting that there was no certainty in stock market investing.
As an equities man through and through, I felt there was no question of going for fixed-interest securities. Nor did I think there was much point in holding back and awaiting less volatile conditions – one can try to be too clever about market timing!
So I resolved to recommend only shares that I currently own – we sink or swim together – and felt that 12 holdings of equal value should be acquired. I proposed what I term “proper”, established, conservative, profitable, growing companies, which could provide a reasonable dividend yield.
After much thought, I selected seven main market stocks, plus five shares traded on the Alternative Investment Market (Aim). Here is my portfolio, and the reasons behind each of my selections."

And here is the relevant tip

● Air Partner is the world’s leading aircraft charter broker, hiring available aircraft for clients. Its services have been called upon to “rescue” stranded holidaymakers or support Foreign Office and military activities overseas. It is cash-rich and the shares offer a 5 per cent yield.

I'm seriously thinking about a small investment myself, but I'm wondering what any of you think?
If anybody is still here that is! I can't find any real reason for the substantial drop. By OilPrince

Small caps:
By Keyur Patel

Air Partner slipped 2.4 per cent to 312½p after the aviation company said it faced a “very difficult” trading environment. It cautioned that revenues from commercial jet broking, its largest division, were lower than last year though in line with management’s expectations.
Oriel Securities had a “buy” rating, saying it saw scope for Air Partner to expand its price to earnings ratio. But this depended upon “a better outlook for UK GDP growth and positive earnings momentum,” it added.

You cannot fault the ratios that AIP have, it has tightly held shares with very few who wish to dispose of them indicating, 1) They are all like investorphobe with a negative holding, and a lot of hope , or 2) Like myself happy in what they see for the future, whilst receiving a steady dividend, yes definately a hold, better still to be a strong buy for the uplift to the SP. and yes it has dropped like a stone but has risen a long way since it was Air London way way back in the annuls of time.
Yes i'm in, have been for 2 years, been to the top of the share chart mountain and am now nearly back to base camp, As you say, and i hope, base camp will move and one would expect upward movement, as i liked the view from triple digit position, unlike at present on the plains of flat growth.
As you relate a share buying opportunity for the Sultans, Kings, and our Queens carrier.Buy or Hold help a poor share mountaineer, to scale this peak again. By churjones
