BNC's AM business valued at c.E2000m. and part of a JV with WP and AT. A capital gain of E700m. I guess its book value was E1400. My questions are:

1) Did BNC receive cash or a like for like contribution of assets into the JV?
3) How was the JV valued?
2) Does this de-consolidate liabilities and risk leaving BNC with stronger capital ratios?

Although I've held BNC on and off for a while now, I was pleasantly surprised to note that the company made a profit of £22.8bn before provisions last year. With a dividend of c10% and a market cap of only c£35bn, this share is due a major rerating.

The only thing required is patience. In the interim, the monthly sipp premiums will continue to be invested here.
Another divi due in 6 weeks too.

Asset Managers

With the market for AMs buoyant BNC may be tempted to IPO a percentage of this business and float it on the market providing a market valuation for the remainder. It should boost BNCs value , and as an independent AM business it would maintain its own capital ratios freeing up BNC's balance sheet. If my interpretation is right then a good move.

Re: news A M division

Well I'm not entirely sure it would.

Santander asset management have just recently in effect stopped offering sale of their investment funds through their branch network. Maybe this is their way of getting new funds in to the investment portfolios they offer?

I know if you walk in to a branch now you can no longer get regulated financial advice. By paulcynric

Thanks for the reply.

As you say, the cash back on the phone, council tax and utilty bills more than pay for the monthly fee. You can also get the credit card free for the fist year when you open a 1-2-3 account! More cash back opportunities!

Just hope Santander don't change the rules once they have us all hooked! By batteryman15

Re: Positive uplift coming

I cannot see from where. Ongoing trading is pretty static, whilst the scale of the Spanish bad debts has still to be recognized in the accounts - though it probably is in the share price. Paying out these divis in excess of eps and then recouping some of the damage by issuing shares as specie is financial engineering of the worst sort. Nothing like retained earnings to give confidence. Just look at Lloyds Q1 to see the relationship between retentions at last and a surging SP. By schwee

Re: 1-2-3- Account?

I too was persuaded to open a 123 debit account, as stated 3% interest on a balance £3000 to £20,000 I think that you have to pay in a minimum of £500 a month (not sure) and of course there is that £2.00 a month fee and you must have direct debits on the account but the good thing is that direct debits for council tax, gas and leccy and telecoms, certainly in my case more than pay the £2.00 fee. Anything over £20,000 is no interest, so you have to keep an eye on your balance. Also Santander have the Esaver account, for the first year paying 1.5% on everything, no fee but there is tax to pay on these accounts. These accounts look good on paper but don't forget inflation, cash in the bank at the moment is losing value, much better to keep a small reserve fund and put the rest in a good share like Santander with regular dividends. In particular, the on balance volume 12mth v 5yr looks v positive. There are a lot of buyers out there. When it does move, it will do so quickly.

1-2-3- Account?

My wife has just opend a santander 1-2-3 account and i am thinking of doing the same.

We have both been shareholdes since they took over who ever it was!!! And have have bought more shares since.

On paper it seems a no brainer???

Mony back on utility bills, etc and goosd interest over £3000 to £20K @ 3%!!! All for only £2 per month fee and no fees on the credit card for the first year with cash back on shopping and petrol etc?

Is this too good to be true? How long will it be before the 1-2-3 account benifits are changed.

At the moment Santander must be taking over a lot of customes from other banks.

Probably not be long before others follow suit!

Anyone have any bad comments / experience with the 1-2-3 account? By batteryman15
