Trading Update

There will be a trading update on the 1st April which will show Booker continue to trade well, staff bonus will be ahead of last year so full year results will not give any cause for concern. This share will not give you massive short term returns but will move only one way and that is up. Charles Wilson is in control here and has worked a miracle over the last 3 years with more to come..relax if invested here.. By Mojo73

I bought into this share at the beginning of the year, persuaded by favourable comments in the Financial Press to the effect that they hold a stronger position in the food distribution sector than any of their competitors. I watch the tiny daily increments, more down than up on the price. I now realise that there can be no movement of any significance in Booker. Daily Transactions are miniscule. "We have lift-off" ?? ....I don't think so. yawn yawn .......

Re: nice rally....why?...not that I am c...

I think both bits of news have underpinned confidence in this company today. Yesterday I was beginning to question my investment here, I had decided to wait until April 1st because I couldn't see any reasons for the slip other than the price had gone up too much too soon and needed to consolidate. Trouble is consolidation was beginning to look more like a steady decline. For me Booker provides my portfolio with some exposure to the growth story in India.

This may be of interest.

"It is understood that much of the product is being sourced from Booker, the cash-and-carry retailer that Baugur used to have a stake in."
Nothing official but I'm presuming this would be a large contract.

I didn't spot the broker upgrade so that's probably the largest factor in today's spike. By andymid

Think something is not right with my link. Here's a cut and paste instead:

Among the second liners Booker, the cash and carry wholesaler, has bounced 1.72p to 43.76p after an upgrade from Evolution Securities. The broker raised its price target from 44p to 50p and said:

Booker is funding growth from cash flow – unusual for a food retailer – and should be debt–free by 2012. Value-added, bolt-on acquisitions look likely and, along with the low-risk venture into India, signal excellent growth potential. As Booker grows, the company will come to be more widely covered and its long-term potential better understood – leading to a deserved rerating for the shares.
