Re: Japan Exposure

money is money though and I really feel it's worth investing in Japan smaller companies now. This is not the best vehicle to do it, as you can easily see on trustnet a lot of the outperformance on this once has come through a narrowing of the discount. Am very happy to have exited this trust at 582p and will now spend some of those proceeds and drip feed the rest into Fidelity Japanese and JPMF UK Smaller. By alandwd

Re: Discount

Although we have seen great returns from the trough when the price was £2.30 we are only up marginally from 5 years ago when we were £4.40 and when we running at a hefty discount to NAV or 10%+. although i agree its good to bank a good profit it could be argued that with smaller companies around the world only just coming out of hibernation with access to banking (especially US and UK) there could be plenty of growth to come as te quantitative easing filters through to the smaller companies. we will see but certainly the returns in last 3 years (if you got in at the trough) have been great but for many investors who got in 5 years ago a 25% rise in 5 years is not so exciting. btw i am only keeping an eye on my daughters child trust fund and longterm this should outperform.
Discount

Also forgot to add that with the aggressive discount controls in place at this trust, the current discount is only 0.8%. This looks very unattractive to me considering the fund is 42% invested in UK Smaller Companies, which are available via many other trusts at a discount of 15%+. This is the other major factor in my decision to cash out. By alandwd

I´m still here and investing monthly - have been since 1998. The rise looks very dramatic on the chart and I´m wondering if it´s time to cash in and take the capital gain before April (will still continue the monthly investment though).
I put some of my early retirement lump sum into this with immaculate bad timing just before the last crash, but it has
since more than justified itself. I also bought the US smaller companies fund and it has done pretty well: compare it with the Dow over the last year. My other F&C holding is the original Investment Trust, which I inherited and has been steady if unspectacular. I'm a fan of Investment Trusts; over the years I just seem to do better with them than individual shares or UTs. By alekhine

Re: This is a top share =why no chat

i am here keeping an watchful eye. i invested for my daughter for longterm through child trust fund and its been quite impressive growth, especially from dark days of 2008. Longterm over 18 years it makes complete sense to expose to small companies in fast growing parts of the world. however short-term this stock can move quite quickly in reverse.
