What do I not inderstand here?

8.875% for this..buy at about 112....and for (GACB) General Accident 7.875% Prf, only 1 % less divi but a whopping 10% or so cheaper.

(GACB) General Accident 7.875% Prf easily seems a bargain and the best buy.

So where have I got it wrong ?

Replies appreciated. By Eugene Thomson

I was wrong about the dividends: GACA's is bigger (8.875%) than AV-A's (8.75%).
Nevertheless my sums indicate that it's not really worth the bother of switching, given I've only got 2000 AV-A prefs. One for the big guys. By Brown Bull

Re: price difference with AV.A

Sounds like a good idea in principle, selling AV-A for GACA. However the differential between the offer price for GACA (111.5p) and the bid price for AV-A (115p) isn't that big, once you take into account the fact that AV-A's dividend is very slightly bigger and the broker's commission on the sale and purchase.

I'll need to do some sums!

Hi

Yes, strange difference.
I sold half my AV.A at 117.25 and then bought GACA at 110 to replace them.
Maybe should have sold all my AV.A to buy GACA.

price difference with AV.A

Anyone know why such a large price difference has opened up between GACA and Aviva's 8.75 pref, AV.A. In the past GACA and AV.A have generally traded within a couple of pence difference as the dividend is almost identical. At the moment though AV.A is around 7p higher suggesting that GACA's dividends are seen as somewhat less secure. I'm not sure if Aviva fail to pay General Accident the money for GACA dividends whether they would also be obliged to suspend AV.A divs? By mathsgeek
