Trading Update & RNS

Hi

At least the long decline has now reversed.

Trading Update while not saying too much reads OK to me with a reasonably confident outlook.
Share buybacks are to be continued this year.

Henderson have apparently doubled their holding, now over 14 % which would explain the recent volume and sp rise.

Investors Chronicle tip

Having owned these since 2007 when I paid £4.66 for my first lot and added at various times for £1.08, 92p and 71p I can say I've bought into the directors ability to run a tight ship :o) which, seeing as they ran the company for 30 odd years before it went public they have done pretty well.
The company is in good shape with a range of newish ships (far better than in 2007) and debt levels are not wildly high. However the share price has only ever gone down (even with the buy back in place) in the last 5 years and enough is enough.

This year I've needed a loss to help mitigate some tax so out these go. Due to the huge spread and silly price for large sales I've had to drip sell over the last few weeks to get cleared out but I'm now done and dusted.

So, what happened today? The Investors Chronicle's My Bearbull has decided that GPRT is an 'exciting income share' and tipped it as a buy for recovery.

I'll bet they go up now. Grrr, you can't win!

Re: Results

Problem is that the CEO & Founder owns circa 56% of the shares and may well take this company private as he may well see this as an opportunity to buy it outright at a very cheap price. You would not get a premium like a normal takeover. However in the meantime as he is a a big holder of the shares he also benefits from the healthy dividend payout, so I see that continuing.

Another option open to them is that they delist in London and list in Cyprus !

I may buy in at these levels as it is a prudently run company and I think the downside is minimal from these levels. However should it be taken private I can't see much upside. But they will eventually rise should the company remain listed and finally get the rating they deserve.

Results

Hi

I nervously bought a few of these last week, didn`t like the down trend but think there is some potential recovery of the sp over time.

Results don`t look bad to me, a 10% increase in the Interim dividend to 2p shows a commitment to shareholders and some confidence.(ex D 7/9/11 pay 7/10/11.

sp static on results but this is obviously very thinly traded.

Yield very good, assuming they maintain the final dividend at previous level.

Anyone else looking/invested here?

Thoughts welcome.
All the Best

Price to book is around 0.6. Not quite bogof but pretty close.
Two directors splashed some cash last Thursday -
Captain Paris Dragnis bought 80,334 shares
Mr. Konstantinos Kabanaros bought 31,631 shares
Captain Paris Dragnis now owns 51,359,778 shares, or 56% of Goldenport and I can't help wondering if this is holds back the share price a bit.

Re: Waiting

There was a very long feature on Bloomberg TV last night about this. The ceo of a shipping company they interviewed said that a lot of the ships that were ordered just before the crisis were never delivered because financing dried up.
Someone from Seaspan was then interviewed and said that the price of container shipping was on a stong rising trend due to a lack of capacity.

Waiting

Have looked at Goldenport and whilst I like the company and think it's BOD is quite competent, I think that there is a surplus of ships out there at the minute and it's going to be a while before trade picks up to the extent that we'll see some decent growth in the SP.

New ships, rising trade, great growth

This looks like a good bet in an environment where commodity prices are rising and recovery underway, wherever in the world that may be.
The new ships obviously indicate bullishness from Goldenport, and forecasts are for very health growth from 2011 onwards, earnings rising to around 18p per share.
