Inditherm Medical exhibit at Medica 2011

Inditherm plc : Inditherm Medical exhibit at Medica 2011
Inditherm Medical recently exhibited their full range of products at Medica 2011, the largest Medical exhibition in the world, held annually in Düsseldorf. This year's exhibition attracted 134,500 visitors from 62 countries and was the company's 8th year of attendance.

Inditherm Medical had a prominent stand on the UK pavilion where they exhibited their full range of medical products. These included warming systems for use in rooms and associated areas, emergency room, neonatal units, maternity and military use. There was also increased interest in the heat therapy products for use in chemotherapy and physiotherapy departments.

The exhibition was again a success for Inditherm, attracting many visitors to the stand with their unique technology and cost saving systems. Meetings were held with over 25 of Inditherm's current distributors and new contacts were made with potential partners from a number of countries where we are still seeking representation.

Feedback on the current global market was mixed, as might be expected in the current times of economic uncertainty, but the breadth of Inditherm's distribution helps to maintain export growth despite those problems. There was a positive outlook from a number of regions and an order for 50 systems for Saudi Arabia, a combination of patient warming and heat therapy with a value of over £75k, was secured during the show.

Inditherm Medical are now looking towards their next large exhibition, Arab Health, held in Dubai in January 2012.
Inditherm plc : Inditherm Medical wins award for Export Achievement
Inditherm Medical has received the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) Award for Export Achievement at the recent regional Medilink Healthcare Business Awards.

Celebrating outstanding business achievements and innovation across Yorkshire and Humber's healthcare and related life sciences sector, Medilink awarded honours for the best of business at their annual awards evening, held this month in York.

Inditherm Medical was presented with the export achievement award in recognition of the expansion of their overseas network of distributors. This included the building their global reputation, and growth in market access with particular focus on the Middle East, China and Europe.

Nick Bettles, Inditherm CEO commented: "We are naturally delighted to have won this award ahead of a large number of very strong and successful medical businesses in the region. We continue to focus on our export strategy and anticipate further growth from overseas markets in the years ahead. We now have over 60 distribution partners worldwide, giving us a breadth of coverage that is particularly important during the current period of global economic uncertainty.
Pick of AIM ..

Pick of AIM by Miles Nolan
http://www.growthcompany.co.uk/features/1670818/pick-of-aim-by-miles-nolan.thtml

The recent £43.8 million acquisition of AIM-listed catheter-to-stent manufacturer Clearstream by US giant C.R. Bard has provided shareholders with a decent exit. So who could be next?

Every day I sift through streams of RNS announcements, but last month one in particular caught my eye. Shares in healthcare investor MDY Healthcare almost quadrupled in value, on the news that it was to realise its investment in Medivance.

None other than C.R. Bard has agreed to pay $250 million for the Colorado-based leader in the emerging field of therapeutic temperature management. Its patented, FDA-approved Arctic Sun device helps deliver precise control over core body temperature after traumatic medical events. Thanks to strong demand for its products, it has enjoyed growth in 27 out of the past 29 quarters.

MDY has invested a total of $6 million (most recently $1 million in June 2009) for its 10.4 per cent holding. This, when completion takes places in the final quarter of 2011, will result in a payment of £12.5 million to £13.125 million.

For MDY, this equates to a windfall of 73p to 77p a share – not bad when compared with its lowly share price of 41p, which values the AIM counter at bang on £7 million.

Tidy profit
MDY has total debts of £1.65 million, so even after being repaid it should leave a tidy profit. Management is to set out a strategy for the use of the proceeds, but this is not the end of the story.

MDY also has one other investment – a 14.5 per cent stake in Stanmore. Founded in 1949, this is an orthopaedic business focused on saving and restoring the function of limbs and joints.

It was a UCL spin-out, and is on track to deliver sales of £7.5 million this year, fuelled by distribution to 15 countries.
MDY has completed a planned cost reduction exercise, which includes assigning its onerous office lease. In my opinion, the shares have further to run.

On the subject of maintaining body temperatures, another AIM minnow catches my eye.

Rotherham-based Inditherm joined the market in 2001 with some fanfare but has struggled to gain traction. Having recently divested itself of its original industrial activities, it is now focused on the medical sector.

Inditherm has spent the thick end of 11 years developing its Alpha mattress, which maintains the core body temperature at over 36ºC.

Nice work
It recently received a boost from NICE (the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence), as the body cited the benefits to the NHS of using its product.

Unfortunately, even with an annual cost saving estimated at £9,800 per operating theatre, the NHS is still proving slow to make decisions. Unflustered, Inditherm has been working hard to win new sales, driven by an increased medical distributor base overseas.

Results for the six months to June revealed a 10 per cent increase in sales to £817,000, as losses from continuing operations shrank over 40 per cent to £74,000 (2010: £124,000 loss).

Following a slow start to the year, the second and third quarters have shown encouraging growth. Indeed, order growth going into the second half is up a useful 30 per cent. When considering it has a net cash balance of £1.5 million, which is the same as its market value, the patented technology it owns is in for free.

With minimal cash burn, Inditherm should be able to get to profitability without returning to the market for further funds.

Broker Collins Stewart predicts break-even for 2012, on sales of £1.7 million, rising to £2 million and a pre-tax profit of £200,000 in 2013. At 3p, the risk/reward ratio is attractive. Either it gets into the black on its own or a large player such as C.R. Bard stumps up for the technology.

NICE supports Iditherm 'warming' mattress

NICE supports Iditherm 'warming' mattress
Thursday 1st September 2011
http://www.nursinginpractice.com/article/26716/NICE_supports_Iditherm_'warming'_mattress

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has backed the use of a warming mattress during surgery to prevent inadvertent hypothermia in its latest published guidelines.

Clinical evidence gathered by the Medical Technologies Advisory Committee (MTAC) suggests the Iditherm mattress has the same effect as forced air warming – a technique that continues to be championed by NICE.

The estimated average NHS cost saving for the Inditherm mattress is in the region of £9800 per theatre each year as calculated by the MTAC.

"We are very pleased to publish guidance today advising that the Inditherm patient warming mattress should be considered for use in patients at risk of inadvertent hypothermia," said Professor Carole Longson, director of the NICE Centre for Health Technology Evaluation.

"The evidence examined indicates that as well as benefiting patients by reducing a range of serious complications associated with inadvertent hypothermia, it also benefits the NHS by saving money."

Benefits of the Iditherm mattress include its re-usability, low energy consumption and the fact it warms the patient without unintentionally also warming the surgical team. By SpikeyDT

Growth Investor-Miles Nolan

Inditherm wins NICE support
31/08/2011 Miles Nolan
http://www.growthcompany.co.uk/news/1650793/inditherm-wins-nice-support.thtml

Heating solutions innovator Inditherm (IDM) has received a boost from NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) as the body has cited the benefits to the NHS, of using its patient warming mattress.

The Alpha mattress has been in development for over 11 years, and maintains the patients core body temperature at over 36 degrees centigrade. According to NICE the Inditherm product should be considered for patients that are undergoing operations that carry a risk of inadvertent hypothermia. Moreover, the annual cost saving is estimated to be £9,800 per operating theatre.

Inadvertent hypothermia is a common but preventable complication during surgery which can lead to blood loss, longer recovery times and increased heart problems. If the NHS were to replace its more traditional method of a hot hair disposable blanket with the Inditherm solution the 3,030 operating theatres in teh UK could save upwards of £15 million.

Rotherham based Inditherm joined AIM in 2001 after a successful fundraising that secured £3.3 million at 97p - however its progress since has been slower than hoped. That said, the decision to broaden its horizons beyond the UK by signing up over 50 distributors worldwide has seen it sell products to: the US, Australia and more recently the Middle East.

Speaking to Growth Company Investor chief executive Nick Bettles said 'the Alpha product is significantly better for the environment and has a number of benefits - we welcome the NICE endorsement.' Last year Inditherm hiked sales 47 per cent to £1.3 million as gross profits edged up 58 per cent to £805,000 - pre-tax losses fell to £409,000 (2010: £723,000).

Interim results are due on 29 September and should confirm that the medical business remains its key focus, with more resource being pushed towards winning new business. At 3.25p, the rarely traded shares have speculative appeal, particulary given a cash balance of £1.7 million - similar to its current market value.
- their medical products help save costs at a time when the public sector needs to drive efficiency
- broadening global distribution network should reduce market specific risk, though I think middle east remains important for them

Very interesting situation

IDM has suffered from a large overhang from Cazenove that has been sold down slowly taking the price with it; the sp is now at an artifically low price (4p=£2m cap).

On 29th March Caz reported that they had 7.6m shares left. Dion bought 4m on 4th April and then 0.25m on 11th april. I can see another 2.5m traded which means there is only 0.85m left before the mm runs out; thats £34k at 4p.

So, my guess is that breakout is very soon.
