Re: Shareholders were robbed

Just read your post 18 months too late. I did not make millions as you infer because I don't short shares, particularly this one. The problem is - say you borrow 10,000 shares and sell then for £50,000. Now when things are so bad as in this case you can never predict with accuracy when the shares will be suspended. When they are you are in trouble as you cannot buy back the 10,000 shares so cannot meet your liabilities. By numberbiter

Re: What's happened here

Go back ten plus years on this BB and you will see that I was recommending a STRONG SELL when these shares were trading above 500p and that was before the share split. For a long time this company's accounts did not make sense because although they appeared to generate huge profits, they never seemed to generate much cash. In my view, the directors have been negligent all along, but after all this time, sadly, it will be virtually impossible to prove.

We all make mistakes; I lost on SCS Upholstery when they went bust. Shareholders received 0.2p per share and the directors bought the company off the administrator for next to nothing and are still trading.

We have to forget our disasters and move on. Jarvis' shareholders should, regrettably recognise they are fighting a lost cause. By numberbiter

Re: JRVS cfd:

Well, it seems that we probably won't have too much longer to wait now.

From the Jarvis Plc website you can see that N B Kahn, N G Edwards, P S Bowers and I Brown were appointed administators on 26 March 2010. These guys work for Deloitte LLP.

I called Deloitte LLP and spoke with a chap from their Administrations Team (Chris Hurst). He said that there would be an update from the administrators on 25th March (although administration process would continue beyond that).

However, he assured me that ordinary share holders would receive NOTHING back. There will be no reimbursement / dividend / settlement of any amount (say 5p per share for example).

So, assuming that they make this clear on 25th March, then our repective positions SHOULD close out at zero. However, if the above fact is NOT stated explicitly, then the costs could roll on.

Now that I have this information I guess I might settle for zero now - and that way my daily funding charges with cease forthwith.

Cheers, and good luck all,

I seem to be in a similar position, although not with a CFD but with ordinary shares. I use Interactive Brokers and my position is still open (and staring me in the face everyday!)

The balance is also taken into account with my overall portfolio and when I use margin JRVS is included in the charge calculation. Doesn't seem fair but I'm not sure what to do about it. By Cromm

JRVS cfd:

Hi folks,

I'm guessing it might be a while to get a reply to this - if at all.

However, I was interested to know if anyone else was in the same position as I am, and what they have done about it.

I have a long cfd open with IG Markets on JRVS. I say 'open', because since JRVS went bust, the trade hasn't closed/settled. The reason that IG offer, is that it hasn't yet been determined at what value (if any at all) shareholders will receive any final settlement. It is possible that there will be a couple of pence of value after all other creditors have their slice of the pie.

The problem is, that as a consequence of an 'open' cfd, I incur a daily funding charge!!

What I wondered, was whether anyone had had previous experience of this. Also, whether anyone had any idea of any likely timeframe moving forward for repayment of anything due to ordinary shareholders.

It just seems that IG could hold the position open indefinitely, and charge myself (and all those in the same position) daily interest, ad finitum.

A nice little earner.

IG don't half milk the cash in.

Cheers and good luck all,

Re: Shareholders were robbed

Yes, shareholders were robbed, but they were stupid as well! When this company allegedly made profits they never seemed to generate cash which was very strange. Because Jarvis's Balance Sheet was always very weak I first recommended a strong sell when the shares were over 500p and re-iterated this view when they were down to 300p (see my post dated 3 July 2002).
JARVIS STAFF TO LOSE 28 MILLION POUNDS

JARVIS STAFF TO LOSE 28 MILLION POUNDS

Over 1,000 employees of failed engineering firm Jarvis look set to lose 28 million pounds to which they are entitled in holiday pay, back wages and other benefits, according to Deloitte, the company's administrator. Deloitte said the failure to sell off assets beyond the 17 million pounds needed to pay secured lenders meant unsecured creditors, such as former staff, were unlikely to get the money they were owed. Trade creditors were also unlikely to be paid. Jarvis blamed government spending cuts for its collapse in March By kopkidie

Re: What's happened here

Jimboyuk

I have to disagree.

There is no point in assuming anyone who bought Jarvis must have done so because they read a BB.

Jarvis made statements to the market that gave no indication that they were likely to go into administration. In fact, they announced a contract that had not actually been signed.

So, Jarvis BOD's were misleading people. Investors.

And that is not right. And it is not down to BB comments that many people have lost money. It is down to foul play. Nothing more, nothing less. Sadly they will get away with it. By themanxman
