You would have done better buying after the xd at the end of April. There is no point paying stamp duty on the higher value pre xd-date and then paying yourself back a dividend effectively with your own money (the share price will drop on xd-date by the value of the dividend).
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
there is a flaw in your kind advice in that i WILLget my money back by a set divi but there is no certainty in the amount of drop ...xd date if any......Thankyou anyway for the thought !
I did however buy on the big mgns drop that day which coincided witha dgo near record high.

Re: The Expert View..

Ah silly me.

Here's what it says:

Liberum impressed by Morgan Sindall's performance against tough backdrop

William Shirley, analyst at Liberum Capital, has increased his price target for London-headquartered construction services business Morgan Sindall (MGNS.L) following stronger-than-expected results in 2011.

Earnings per share of 81p were 7% ahead of Shirley's forecast, which he said was principally a result of a strong showing from the firm's infrastructure services division.

The analyst said that trading in the construction market remains tough, but he noted that 'Profitability at urban regeneration is improving and there are areas of infrastructure which offer exciting growth (e.g. energy distribution).'

However, although Shirley identified a number of positives for Morgan Sindall, he said now may be the time to switch into Balfour Beatty (BALF.L) and Costain (COSG.L) instead.

Shares in Morgan Sindall closed at 658.50p on Wednesday, down 23p. By LoadsaDosh2

Re: loadsadosh

Yes but you have to hold for an entire year for 6%. If you sell and buy back between £5 and £6 which they will undoubtedly fall to, you can probably make 20% capital gain instead. Like I say, refer to the chart to see the pattern.
There was nothing in the results that points to any change in fortune or trading pattern and on the whole I thought results were somewhat negative as has been proven by the recent fall. By LoadsaDosh2

  Asi hold these beauties for a 6%yield i can't be arrrst about sp going down ..unless you can point to a higher interest rate its the number of shares one holds that counts ...There is absolutely no need to kill off a golden goose by selling.

  6%yield  good long term  hold

In the Times, Tempus points out the long term strategy of construction firm Morgan Sindall. It is using earnings from core construction work to invest in regeneration projects, like town centres. It may well pay off, thinks Tempus, highlighting the 6% yield, but in the near term profits will be hard to come by: “a long term play” is the conclusion.
