STOCK UP ON OIL/ENERGY STOCKS

EXCITING TIMES AHEAD!

Tom’s Investment Masterclass
4 great reasons to buy oil explorers now
10 ...continued on next page...
that. This is a remarkable time to be in the oil exploration business – for four reasons.
1. Penny stocks are unlocking huge new reserves
The problem with being a big oil and gas producer is that each day takes you closer to going out of
business – unless you can find new reserves to replace those sent to market.
In the last five years the oil majors have been exploring the proven shallow waters of the Gulf
of Mexico, Nigeria and Angola, but their efforts to find new reserves here have not been especially
successful. Meanwhile, their smaller and bolder rivals have made significant new discoveries in deep
water locations off the coast of Brazil, Ghana and the Gulf of Mexico, as well as significant onshore
discoveries in Kurdistan and Uganda.
This is opening up the possibility that major new oil producing basins could be found. Goldman
Sachs has identified three likely contenders – and we have a stake in each.
The first is the South Falklands Basin where Borders & Southern (BOR) and Falkland Oil & Gas
(FOGL) will be sharing the Leiv Eiriksson drilling rig to drill four exploration wells in a program
starting in December. The second is offshore Namibia where Chariot Oil & Gas expects to be drilling
later this year, with Tower and its partner Arcadia hoping to follow early in 2012. The third is offshore
Bahamas, which is dominated by BPC.
With their coffers filled from selling oil at $120/bl the majors are increasing their exploration budgets and
are keen to look at new frontiers. This has important implications for pioneering exploration companies.
BPC, Tower or FOGL are much too small to finance a drilling campaign out of their own pocket.
They need to bring in rich partners through what are known as ‘farm-in’ deals. Although it has
subsequently been unwound, an example was BHP’s farm-in to acreage that had been licensed to
FOGL. In return for a $10m lump sum and an agreement to fund the future work programme BHP
acquired a 40% interest in two licences.
The terms of any farm-in deal are very important. The junior explorer has the rights to the licence
and a package of data, while the oil major has cash and expertise. Both need each other and the exact
terms of any deal depend upon whose need is greater. The oil majors today are making good money
and need to get involved in new frontiers, so the junior explorers should be able to drive a hard
bargain. Over the next few months we could see industry majors farming in to projects at offshore
Namibia and the Bahamas, and in the South Falklands Basin. These deals will be scrutinized very
closely and could have important implications for the share price of our Red Hot plays.
Where else should we be looking for stock market winners? Another key theme for the industry is
‘unconventional’ gas and liquid.
2. The huge promise of unconventional oil and gas
There are six types of unconventional gas...
1. Deep natural gas is natural gas that exists at much deeper levels than traditional drilling depths and
consequently is more expensive to extract;
2. Tight natural gas is trapped in impermeable and non-porous rock formations and cannot be
extracted without techniques such as ‘fraccing’ (rock fracturing) or acidizing;
3. Shale gas exists in shale, a very fine-grained and soft sedimentary rock;
4. Coalbed methane has traditionally been thought of as a threat to the safety of coal miners, but is
now extracted for its own sake;
5. ‘Geopressurized zones’ – natural underground formations in which the gas is trapped at very
high pressure;
6. Methane hydrates are the most recent form of unconventional natural gas to be discovered and are
made up of a lattice of frozen water, which traps molecules of methane. The US Geological Society
estimates that methane hydrates may contain more organic carbon than the world’s coal, oil and
By dickie3times

Re: RNS - Project Update !

I guess an increase in production costs is to be expected with the price of commodities flying.
I think they should of put it into context, though, with a few examples of the price of Ethanol of then and now.
production costs

RNS - Project Update !

MAPLE ENERGY PLC

("Maple" or the "Company")

ETHANOL PROJECT UPDATE

Maple Energy plc (AIM: MPLE; LIMA: MPLE), an integrated energy company with assets in Peru,

is pleased to provide an update on the development of its ethanol project ("Ethanol Project"). Maple is making excellent progress on the Ethanol Project, and the Company expects to commence commercial operations of the Ethanol Project during the fourth quarter of 2011.

60-kilovolt Electric Transmission Line

The 60-kilovolt electric transmission line, which connects the Ethanol Project to the national power grid, is now substantially complete, and certain portions of the electric distribution system for the pump stations have also been substantially completed. The Company expects to energise the electric transmission line and begin purchasing electricity from a generator on the national power grid by mid-May. The cost of this electricity is expected to be lower than the cost currently incurred by Maple through the use of diesel generators, which are the primary source of power for the agricultural operations.

Maple's ethanol plant, which is currently being constructed, will include a distillery as well as a power generation plant with capacity to produce up to 37 megawatts ("MW") of electric power. The steam for the power generation facilities will be provided by a high pressure boiler using bagasse, the sugar cane's dry residue, and some additional plant foliage from Maple's plantation as a fuel source. This power plant will supply the Ethanol Project's power requirements with the sale of any excess power, expected to be approximately 17 MW, to the Peruvian national power grid. Once the ethanol plant, including the power generating facilities, begins operating, the Company will principally use the 60-kilovolt transmission line to deliver electric energy to the national power grid.

Competitive Advantages

The Ethanol Project possesses significant competitive advantages relative to certain of its competitors, including its use of sugar cane as a feedstock, which is widely regarded as the most efficient feedstock for producing ethanol. Furthermore, the strategic location of the Ethanol Project in the Piura Region on the North coast of Peru has a highly-favourable agricultural climate that allows for year-round planting, cultivating and harvesting of sugar cane, which is expected to generate attractive sugar cane yields. The Ethanol Project will also utilise modern farming techniques and automation, including the extensive use of drip irrigation and mechanical harvesting which will enhance the project's operational efficiency while reducing costs. Lastly, the Ethanol Project's proximate location to the export terminal on the Pacific coast will allow for relatively low transportation costs to access key international markets. Through existing international trade agreements, Peru is able to sell ethanol duty-free to both the European Union and the United States. All of these factors will assist Maple in effectively competing with ethanol producers locally and globally.

Estimated Ethanol Project Production Costs

The Company has recently updated projections for its estimated ethanol production costs to take into consideration the impact of the current economic climate, particularly increasing commodity prices and other related costs during the past year. While Maple currently estimates that its production costs for ethanol will be higher than previously reported figures, such projected increased costs are expected to be more than offset by higher sales prices for ethanol sold due to increases in the spot prices for fuel-grade ethanol. In particular, the spot price for fuel-grade ethanol at the port of Rotterdam in the European Union, which is currently the anticipated primary target market for Maple's in By SpikeyDT

Have been watching Maple drop like a stone for the past couple of months with Citigroup selling their holding so think there could be a bit of a lift once they have finished, which is probably going to be soon as they only have about half a mill left to go. Was originally just looking for a quick trade but having looked at their ethanol project, this looks like a good investment.
