Re: New Silk Road?

Agree. Overall, it does sound as though they're trying to become a major international player linking East and West, and this will require leaving behind the old corrupt habits of the 'Wild East', though this won't happen overnight. If MXP has a result in the deeps, you have to feel reasonably optimistic in terms of the development of the assets etc. On balance, I rather have my funds tied up in somewhere like Kaz than in many other parts of the world I can think of which seem less politically stable and lack the same sort of development agenda. Personally, I feel happy enough with my Kaz-based holdings in MXP & JPRL... By Dr Oil

Re: New Silk Road?

"We are asking for wider participation. This is negotiable. We should decide this together, so it's profitable both for Kazakhstan and for you."
------
I think it'll probably be the big boys asked to contribute to the major projects. As you know, there are currently requirements for all companies to buy certain levels of goods / services from within Kaz and MXP is subject to these already. I don't see Kaz seeking to unduly alienate its largest investors by seeking to impose contentious financial burdens. The State is also very wealthy and capable of financing much of this anyway (6% growth forecast this year), so I doubt it will be too much of a drama and the benefits could be substantial if markets to both East and West are linked...
"We will ask all investors [...] to invest money in the development and creation of an alternative economy"

Does that mean they'll force Max to spend money on Kazakh infrastructure? Infrastructure where the driving force will be for the betterment of Kazakhstan, not return on investment?

Sounds great for Kazakhstan, certainly, but not necessarily so great for the investors.

(unless they only intend to do it with the big players....and maybe they'll do it in ways where there will be a return on investment, but my money says unlikely) By Drainboy

Re: DB/GM

The difference is that the type II's are all connected by a common risk factor: the quality of the source rock. Whether it is porous and permeable enough at that depth and pressure to hold commercial oil.

If one type II is a duster then all of them are much more likely to be (if one piece of rock 7km down is too highly pressurised to hold oil, then similar rock nearby is likely to be the same).

The type I's are all distinct in their risk factors. They're more shallow, so don't necessarily share the porosity/permeability issue, but do have other various risks where having success/failure in one won't change the probabilities of any of the others.

This is why a failure at NUR-1 means we'll drill Kuzbak deep anyway. It's more shallow and is still just as good a target in the event of a NUR-1 duster.

IIRC the targets are at 5750m (CARB), 6250m (DEV1) and 6750m (DEV2) more or less, which means we have about 1100 metres to the top of the deepest and largest target. Whether we go all the way to 7250m after breaching the top of the DEV2 structure without finding oil, I don't know. By the time we're there, we might as well. By Drainboy

this stock has no long interest

Amazed at mxp. I was long for years and recently sold out at 12p bought back in today at 10.25p. what strikes me is that we have no bigboy long interest we just aren't on the radar of any major pension funds, hedge funds or any institution that can push us up. it's now at 10p bid that I realize it, the market is rallying its t*ts off and we can't even go .25 bid with any force. it is at this point that I decided to buy back in, MXP has lost all reality of valuation and lost the confidence of the general market. We have no perceived credibility. What will happen to us is this...1 day we will go whooommmmppphhh!!!! We will power on through to a price that people will miss. everyone will assume they have missed the boat to get back in only to be stunned that we keep going higher. 1 day this will happen, and I will be onboard when it does let's hope it's soon...

Re: question re price levels

Remember that it took us a little over a year to get FFD at Zhana Makat. However this was partially due to the fact that it was two companies involved in getting it due to the setup of the field, which made it more time consuming.

As to your other question, the reason they'd do it is money. Once the type 2's are re-risked then the acreage is much more valuable and they can sell it to a major with a much better deal for Kazakhstan. We're basically the test subject who takes all the risk and reaps some of the rewards if things go right. By Drainboy
