Heavy Oil Conference

I have noticed from another BB that a conference about heavy oil is to be held in Aberdeen on 13-15 September. NPE are noted on the web page as being one of two new sponsors. A talk about heavy oil in the North Sea is being given by the CEO of NPE. Very much an industry rather than a private investors event but probably worth keeping an eye on. Seems to me NPE is probably worth more than double the current sp. I have been saying for some time NPE is likely to get bought and that view has not changed. An offer of say £5 per share would be difficult for the board to fend off considering the share price performance over the last 6 months or so. If the other North Sea oil producers are doing their job (producers should be AWASH with money considering the oil price) they should be considering making a bid here as NPE is obviously severely undervalued in my opinion.

Hi killermanjarrow
I'm sure you are right re both Encore and NPE. I did very well with Encore but then had to cut losses quickly but still ended up with a rump at over £3 a share! Thank you for the reference to SQZ a company that I do not immediately recognize. I will look them up as I need to review the news flow time lines on all my shares when I get some spare time.

Re: Where next for NPE?

I'd also say that the reason that I got stung on the Encore TO was that the company was over-valued when I was buying over 100p. I'm pretty confident that NPE is worth, at a very minimum, £4. If they get a good price for Mariner, coupled with further Catcher successes, then we're looking at above a £5 minimum. (I'd expect at least double this by 2016 if we've brought both Kraken and Catcher to production).

I noticed on the SQZ RNS today that spaniards is still on the cards for Q3 this year. This is another heavy oil project which should be to Nautical's strength. By killermanjarrow

Re: Where next for NPE?

I think the difference between Bentley and Kraken from a technical perspective is that the Bentley oil is heavier and significantly more viscous than Kraken. I couldn't find another example of a producing oil field in the North sea where the oil is similar to Bentley, whereas the Captain field is supposed to be similar to Kraken and is producing at 60,000 barrels of oil per day.

I also lost money on Encore and I think the big difference is that Encore were clearly in the market to be taken over whereas Nautical have the cash and assets to reject any low ball offers.

Re: Where next for NPE?

Hi killermanjarrow
I am pleased to see Carnaby underway and at a time of year when the weather might be reasonable. I admit to being puzzled about why the City is more relaxed about the technical aspects of Kraken than it is about Bentley, as there are clearly a lot of similarities. I did quite well out of Xcite in2010-11 but then bought too many at an average of £2.11 so am well down on them at the moment. Like you I think it will come good in the end provided a cheap take -over bid does not come along. I made a loss on Encore because of it being taken over for well below what I paid- not an experience I want to repeat with any of my current holdings. Let us hope that NPE is allowed to carry on doing what it does so well. By MALBRAD

Hi Malbrad,

I'm also long in Xcite and Bowleven (averaging around 130p in both). Of all of my oilies I'd say I have most confidence in Nautical and Ithaca in terms of both weathering any major economic fallout from the Euro. Xcite will surely come good in the end (although I can't say I've ever enjoyed the ride) and the progress with Bentley will be interesting from a Kraken perspective.

Good luck with yours!
