Re: Paddy is Powerful but this O/T re: Betex

This Betex is a strange one. Its principal activity seems to be running lotteries in China, but administration costs seem to well exceed gross profits. The last accounts on the website are for the year ended 31 December 2010, which must be a worry. Apparently, they planned to delist from AIM in 2010 and have made arrangements for shares to be bought and sold on a private basis through J P Jenkins on 0207 562 3388. Based on the 2010 accounts these shares are probably worthless and is yet another reason why I never buy shares listed on AIM. As you know if you buy shares in an AIM listed company at start-up the deal is tax free and you don't pay any capital gains tax. The only reason you get this tax relief is because most investments on AIM are high risk and a few are close to being fraudulent (despite the best intentions of AIM to properly regulate the market).
Paddy is Powerful but this O/T re: Betex

Taking chance during lull in market proceedings to send an off topic message, so apologies in advance.

Does anybody still hold Betex shares? Primarily a gaming company now delisted from AIM and hence with no forum here. I am trying to rekindle a discussion as large salaries still being paid and no updates on website beyond the end of your accounts and details of an annual AGM held within a room that fits15 people max. They're apparently a "going concern" but little information is forthcoming.

Do mention to your fellow investors and please only get in touch via freespirit185 at gmail.com if you still hold shares.

Thanks and once again apologies for interruption. By W8ANDC

Hi Wexboy, your prediction of €45.70 seems wide of the mark given the current price is €67.99 and likely to hit €70 some time this year. Won't be that long before €100 is reached. Suggesting PP will get to as low as your prediction is on a par with Investec giving Whitbread a target price of £16!
Paddy Power

2013 – The Great Irish Share Valuation Project (Part IV)

Including:

Company: Paddy Power

Prior Post: Here

Ticker: PWL:ID

Price: EUR 62.50

Paddy Power continues to suffer an embarrassment of riches, while value investors continue to just suffer embarrassment…. The company’s failed to remotely qualify as a value stock for years now, but has been perfectly content to rub our noses in it with superlative operating & share price performance. Ouch! My summation last year continues to ring true – Paddy Power is definitely the Ryanair of the gambling world! OK, let me struggle again to adequately value it…

Unfortunately, I may prove to be just as wide of the mark again. Last year, I tagged it as being slightly over-valued – in response, it’s bloody well rallied over 40%! Revenue & profit growth continues to run well in excess of 20%, while the balance sheet’s still rock-solid & primed for acquisitions with EUR 186 mio of cash & zero debt. PWL currently trades on a 26.4 P/E. Despite the consistent growth, I’m always conscious how highly-rated shares can get crucified if results fail to deliver – the best I can manage to award is a 20 P/E. Operating free cashflow margins continue to outpace operating profit – at 28.2%, a 3.25 Price/Sales ratio still looks fair, while a substantial positive debt adjustment is clearly appropriate in light of the balance sheet strength & the ringing success to date of their Australian acquisition.

My price target is 25% higher than last year’s – which makes perfect sense – but with PWL’s usual outpacing, it now looks quite over-valued at this point. I may just end up with egg on my face again, but then again…let me remind you, PWL trades on a 26 P/E & a 5.3 P/S right now. Living up to those ratios could prove pretty bloody tough!?

Price Target: EUR 45.70

Upside: (27)%

See the Wexboy blog for links/other stocks!

Cheers,

Re: Telegraph 12 th august

I agree entirely, but its not only technology that PP is great at; their risk management and marketing are second to none. Typical of what they might come up with (in say a Grade 1 chases, where the favourite's form is 11F1) : "If your horse falls at either the first fence or last fence, we will give you your money back." Now, favourite backers believing their horse is a certainty if it doesn't fall with back it with PP. Nineteen times out of twenty it doesn't manage to fall at the required fence, but when it does PP's 'marketing department' springs into action: "Good thing fell at the last at Cheltenham and it cost poor old paddy more than €1 million." So now punters believe that PP are an easy touch so switch to them. Absolutely brilliant! This share now yields 25% per annum based on the price I first paid for the shares. I am afraid Ladbrokes lost its way when it diversified in hotels. As for the rest of the competition there isn't one that matches PP's innovation. By numberbiter

Paddy Power enjoys strong growth in revenue of 23%

StockMarketWire.com - Paddy Power reports that overall performance for the half year was in line with expectations, with strong growth in net revenue of 23% and continued significant investment.

Activity levels outside of Australia were moderated by a number of factors, including weather related racing cancellations and the Olympics.

However this was offset by favourable sports results which resulted in a gross win percentage above our normal expectations and the equivalent period last year.

In Australia, online turnover was up 24%, with no slow down in growth compared to the first half of 2012, notwithstanding the significant step up in growth achieved in the second half of last year.

Within paddypower.com, sportsbook turnover maintained good momentum, increasing by 28%. While gaming/B2B net revenue growth slowed during August and September, it returned to strong growth in October and grew by 14% in the period overall.

In October, mobile turnover as a percentage of total online sportsbook stakes was 27% in Australia (June: 25%) and 45% in paddypower.com (June: 41%).

The most rapid mobile penetration continues to occur in gaming with mobile gross win in October accounting for 28% of Paddy Power Casino (June: 19%) and 25% of Paddy Power Games (June: 20%).

Despite a competitive high-street environment, UK Retail performed well with like-for-like net revenue up 5%, driven by strong sportsbook growth of 12%, offsetting a decline in machine gaming of 4%. Irish Retail also performed positively with like-for-like stakes up 0.4% and net revenue up 8%.

The Group retains significant financial flexibility with net cash of approximately €169 million at 14 November, excluding customer balances.

The shares of Paddy Power, the Irish bookie, have rocketed more than 900 per cent in 10 years and the total return is an even more impressive 1,170 per cent. However, it is Paddy Power’s embrace of technology that has seen it take a leading role in off-course betting.

The same can’t be said of Ladbrokes, which comes a distant third in returns to investors, who have received just 2.9 per cent in 10 years. This may be blamed on its poor digital offering
