Scapa’s operating margins improve

Scapa, a Manchester-based group that dates back to 1927, moved from the main market to Aim four years ago. But only in the past couple of years has it completed its transformation into a manufacturer of bonding and adhesive products for the industrial, medical and electronics sectors.


Heejae Chae, chief executive since September 2009, has streamlined the management and concentrated on products with added value. This week’s interim results showed what Mr Chae described as the “very good progress” in markets that continue to be challenging. While revenues for the six months to September 30 were up only 1 per cent to £98.6m, pre-tax profit excluding a £1m one-off gain rose from £2.7m to £4.5m and the operating margin improved from 3.7 per cent to 5.1 per cent.

Brewin Dolphin sees “numerous opportunities” for further margin improvement towards the management target of 8 per cent. It is forecasting full year pre-tax profit of £8m. That may have had a set back when they had a falling out last night?
But it will have to be resolved eventually, and then we might continue to build slowly?
But as you say, the vol / trade was interesting
Someone is confident-one way or the other?
