Re: Sepura - entry into the US market

Comms reliability in civil unrest is important and it seems to me TETRA has an advantage here, especially with its 'man-down' phone feature..

Rumour has it US is expecting lots of unrest and investing in police kit, as is EU with 'austerity measures' bringing on riots, and democracy demos elsewhere in world too.

So SEPU in a growing market. PaulyPilot of Pub on TMFool expects 100p in due course too, which is a good sign to invest. Bought in. By alecro

Sepura in shape for global growth

Sepura in shape for global growth

Sepura, the Cambridge based specialist in TETRA digital radios, anticipates strong international growth as it rolls out a new generation of products into more global territories. CEO Gordon Watling reveals that Sepura is on track for a Q4 launch of its new ATEX products.
“The forthcoming launch of our ATEX products, combined with strengthening gross margins and the operational efficiencies resulting from our recent restructuring, gives us a solid platform from which to achieve our full year targets,” he announced with the company’s interim results. Sepura was bang on target for the six months to September 30. The UK company generated strong commercial revenues despite a challenging market backdrop. Its revenues of £28.4m were in line with expectations. And Sepura achieved the forecast gross margin improvement – strengthening to 45.3 per cent. Watling said that the company‘s cost reduction programme was driving further operational efficiencies. The restructuring had been completed with forecast cost savings of £1.7m in FY12.

Sepura has also paid attention to its balance sheet. A term loan was repaid in October and a new £18 million credit facility secured for five years. The company was sufficiently confident to hoist the interim dividend seven per cent to 0.48p per share. During the half-year, Sepura delivered 63,000 radios to customers in 65 countries and reported increasing demand from commercial customers who represented 17 per cent of revenues – up from nine per cent in H1 last year. Seven countries bought over £1m of products and services, compared to five countries in H1 last year. Watling said: “We are encouraged by the resilient demand in our core markets and the increased demand from our commercial sector customers. “Our business is as usual weighted to the second half of the year. However, the forthcoming launch of our ATEX products, combined with strengthening gross margins and the operational efficiencies resulting from our recent restructuring, gives us a solid platform from which to achieve our full year targets.”

Re: Sepura - entry into the US market

Can anyone explain why SEPU is expected to make material profits in the US? I appreciate that the regulatory approval significantly expands the addressable market, but why do people expect that customers will prefer SEPU over the long-established non-TETRA incumbents?
Any insight much appreciated! By Somerset_Al

Re: II's increase stakes

Vasque

Yes, certainly very quiet but a not unpleasant contrast to some of the hot air spouted on other boards :-)

It would be nice to know who the sellers are - and also whether the buyers are LT investors because of perceived 'value' or know something we don't?

Wouldn't it be lovely for SEPU's sp to return to its 2007 IPO price :-) SEPU keeps winning contracts (another Indian one announced today) but seems to struggle to control its expenditure, meaning its healthy gross margins aren't translated into higher EPS. Whilst my (re)purchase in September 2010 (at 41.95p) has gone nowhere, I'm content to leave these sitting in my ISA, hoping for some traction.

The sp had quite regularly spiked up (to mid 50's) so the 60p you mention is realistic I think - we just need some news that captures the attention of pi's - the company's fundamentals are solid.

Re: II's increase stakes

Hey Diottica,

It's a quiet place in here!

The recent increased investment is very interesting. I wonder who is offloading their shares - the MMs can't have had that many on hold.

If SEPU keep increasing their dividend (as per their policy) and their development of a DMR platform is on time & successful, the SP should start to gain some traction. Although I can't imagine us reaching the IPO heights in the short->medium term (sadly!), I believe 60p+ could be easily achieved.

I notice from recent RNS that Ora (a small, largely technology, fund) has increased its stake by 1.8m shares to 3.5% and Gartmore by 5.8m shares (via CFD) to over 10%.

I'm still here but not much to say :-)

Sold out at around 50p in May and just bought back in at 42p, hoping to see a rise back to the c.50p level come results on 25 Nov. This is part of my '2010 strategy' of trying to trade my share holdings rather than 'buy and hold' that worked well in 2009.

From memory the company said that profits would be loaded towards the year end and with little downside (I hope) at current levels (low 40's), SEPU is one I won't worry about.
FWIW, at current prices and market conditions I'm invested in or looking to invest in:

FWEB - see its BB for reasons
AV. - sp well below NAV & good yield
IRV - sp wrongly depressed by fears over public spending cuts & good yield
MAYG - as IRV, but essential services so unlikely to see cuts - results imminent.
RNO - recovery story - results due soon, could re-rate substantially but higher risk
LLOY - of course, l/t current sp OK, but better to try and buy <54p

My other holdings are longer term plays or more speculative but the above I think are worthy of researching to see if they fit your risk/reward appetite.
Yes, been holding over a year (from 32p and topped up twice). It's not done as well as others but I don't have a large stake and it has never caused me any worries - despite the occasional sp volatility (doesn't take much volume to move the price).
I'll review my position once results are in on 8 June (I think), as much in light of the managements outlook statement as the numbers. By Diottica
