Re: 9 days to Divi Payment

Fizzin2000. I just logged on to my Std Life share portal yesterday - for the first time. I noticed that there's a link you can click if you wish to re-invest your divi's in shares. You may be better off electing for the Standard to handle that.

Re: Share Price Falls - Directors want w...

I've been thinking these past few weeks having witnessed the growing anger amongst shareholders - each public company should adopt a pay-pyramid.

In essence the pyramid represents the lowest paid workers in the company (the base) and the highest paid worker (the point at the top). I use the phrase "paid worker" purposely for that describes directors as well as shop-floor staff.

The pyramid should be more akin to those in Egypt than the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco.

The sides therefore should not be near vertical as that implies the top employee is earning many, many times that of the lowest. In fact, if government wished to apply laws to limit director remuneration they could do worse than employ a mathematician to calculate the angle of the sides of this pyramid and apply a maximum degree from the horizontal.

Consider a company with massive numbers of employees at the low pay levels. The base would be quite wide. The top earner would sit quite high if the maximum "angle" was applied and hence would earn a good salary. Then, times become hard and the base workforce shrinks. By default, the top earner would now have to be paid less as the base shrinks so the height of the pyramid falls if the angle is not increased. This top earner would no longer get "x" times the salary of a base worker but would receive a lesser multiple. This seems fair as there are fewer workers.

We just need an impartial mathematician. Any offers?

Re: Share Price Falls - Directors want w...

Keep hearing that pay packages are justified by good performance. Why does this not apply to everybody. Loads of people working their b***s off just to keep a job without any pay rise and directors have a right to large rises because they perform? Really need to change the law on remuneration packages and votes. Also need to peg directors pay rises to the average paid to employees of the same company . If the standard award is 1% then the max pay award to directors is 1%. They can pay the FD 10% as long as others take a cut to keep the average down By WhoSparticus

Cynical or what? You might be correct but then we'd be assuming they could organise such matters when I'd say they'd have difficulty organising a booze-up in a brewery.

Me too. Why should they be paid huge amounts of lolly for poor performance. But I can't understand why a few days after voting electronically I received another email from them encouraging me to vote. My suspicious side says they know how I voted on the remuneration topic and want me to invalidate my vote by attempting to vote twice. Unlikely I know but my suspicious side says otherwise.
I recently voted online for the upcoming S.L. AGM. I could not bring myself to vote yes for the Director's Remuneration - so I didn't - I voted NO.

The share price is not exactly brilliant and although the markets are in turmoil I just don't see how paying bonuses to a bunch of already highly-paid people can be justified. Anybody else agree with me on this?
