Stobart go-ahead for huge business park

North West Evening Mail

Stobart Group gets go-ahead for huge business park

Published at 08:27, Tuesday, 01 May 2012

Stobart Group has been granted planning permission for a new 1.4m sq ft industrial business park in Widnes.

Stobart Park is part or a Merseyside project that will offer transport firms a direct rail link from Liverpool's ports.

The park is already home to Tesco, which has taken two buildings with a combined floorspace of 528,000 sq ft to service its stores throughout the North West.

Stobart Group deputy CEO, Richard Butcher, said: "We welcome the news from Halton Borough Council that the planning application has been approved.

"We believe that the site is the best logistics location in the North West, and with this new development and full rail connectivity, will realise it's full potential."

Jason Print of joint letting agents, Cushman & Wakefield said: “Stobart Park is at the heart of a development of international significance.

"It offers the best logistics location in the North West and is the only truly rail-connected development site in the region. The on-site rail freight interchange offers occupiers financial savings and environmental benefits in their supply chain, a factor which is becoming increasingly important to occupiers.

"In addition, Stobart Park benefits from on-site sustainable power plant and as easy access to the major motorway networks."

Re: EasyJet Now Flying ex Southend

But Newcastle doesn't have the same proximity and access to London. Newcastle does not have other major airports nearby that are struggling with immigration controls. Newcastle does not have the Olympics coming up. Newcastle is not in an area noted by Government to need a new airport. Etc., etc.,

I think Southend will become profitable. By daw2905

Re: EasyJet Now Flying ex Southend

I am not sure it will do much for the Group, airports as such don't make money, particularly regional ones, they rely on extras like parking and spending at shops etc for 'real' income. I did hear that Easyjet is not paying landing fees, if that is correct, there will be no income there. I guess Stobart is going for a very long end game. Investors are struggling to make a profit out of Newcastle and that is an international airport By QuantumOne

EasyJet Now Flying ex Southend

Until recently the only scheduled flights out of Southend Airport have been to Waterford in Ireland. However, EasyJet are now flying to Amsterdam, Barcelona and Belfast.

Over the next few weeks,Easy Jet will also start services to Alicante, Faro, Ibiza, Majorca, Malaga and Jersey, and by early May it will be operating 70 flights a week.

From May 10, Aer Lingus Regional is also commencing services to Dublin.

Wonder what this will deliver for the Stobart Group? By Bencruachan

I also think the drop in share price has something to do with accident on Thursday involving a Stobart lorry. The shares dipped on the news hitting the TV, and came back up before close, only to retreat Friday.I bought on this dip has it will not affect the share price long term.Good luck By Forest F C

Re: Share price

Hi,Seems very strange that Stobart as just started buying back it's own shares. I for one will keep buying this stock as it has so much potential going forward. With the diversification that is going on and the brilliant buy of Southend airport, plus the dividend of 5% it has to be a buy IMO. By Forest F C

Share price

I would recommend caution, this rise will be mainly down to the Group buying back just over 4m shares, this is bound to have an effect on the price. If you want a quick profit sell , otherwise hold By QuantumOne
