Re: price

"Good results, price up."

Really? (see graph)

As I said earlier - results were good. It looks like it will be a successfully growing company over the coming years, but on current performance I think the price is fair to slightly expensive, so I'd be surprised to see any big surge in price unless markets get incredibly bullish (unlikely in the forseeable future) or we get some stellar news.
Results

Just skipped through it.

Overall the results are good, but I am not sure they are good enough to support the current share price.

Sales up 8%. Profits up 12% - that's good, but the PE is over 30, and I don't think that level of growth merits such a high figure.

Obviously the company are intent on growth, and have a strong balance sheet, which they are using to invest in growth - R&D spend had a big hike, net cash has turned to net debt (though perfectly acceptable levels.)

It is encouraging that Q4 was "particularly strong" and current trading sounds good, so things look good for the future.

My other concern, and i did not pick up a reason in my scan, was UK sales have reduced significantly. Overseas growth is laudable, but having established a position in one's home market, it is good to maintain or strengthen it. (Just look at the confidence which has been undermined at Tescos when they reported UK like for likes down 1.3%.)

Long term hold, but probably not worth adding at these levels.. By Hardboy

Re: Who bought............

Such things often intrigue me. I'm not sure enough as to what types of trade are "O"s.

Could it be an employee converting a small option? (Which I guess has no dealing costs, and maybe no stamp duty.)

Another possibility is errors by brokers. I've had it where brokers have taken a phone iunstruction, and got it wrong by a small number of shares. They have always honoured the original instruction, so in such situations they may have to go into the market & trade a small number of shares.

Just guessing - but normally a logical explanation. By Hardboy

Re: thoughts

Appreciate the post BG; and good logic & points.

Not sure how GB got his core holding of shares, but (trying to read the mind of someone I don't know) maybe he sees that as his investment in the company, and it is sizeable; and share options as part of his remuneration, which he wants to spend or invest in other things (pensions etc.)

At the end of the day we can only judge his actions on results, and if we look at the share price over the last couple of years, we can not moan.

Finals due in a couple of months, I guess that is the time to make the judgement; but it will be interesting to see if he gets any questionsa bout the sale at the AGM. By Hardboy

Re: thoughts

Ok, I was merely airing frustration regarding share price drops due to share issues - be it to raise cash, director or share save scheme options.

Lets not get too emotionally involved here though, from a logical point of view a Director selling a sizable chunk of shares is certianly something an investor needs to have a think about.

My though process went along the lines of... with this particular share, his return could, with little upward movement, be much higher - so does he not think there is much upward movement to be had in he coming months, worse still does he think it's going to drop off, or does he not think anything and just wants to realise some cash to enjoy life. And then, regardless of that, the immediate fact is that now there are an additional 6 million odd shares that need a buyer before the shareprice can recover to pre-sale levels.

So, based on that logic (and it maybe flawed - I'm no Warren Buffett!), I sold a few immediately on reading the news article (my profit protection system!) and retained a heathly holding for my long term outlook on this one - which I believe is good. I may even buy back what I sold if it drops anymore. By B Gumble

Re: thoughts

GB has as many shares now as he had at the beginning of the month, so why should we believe he is expecting bad news?

I know I started this thread, but I don't see anything worrying in what has happened. There are nearly 6 million more shares in circulation, and the MD is quite a bit better off. That is all that has changed. The business should go on - business as normal. By Hardboy
