Mrs LKH advises me that Waitrose are doing a BOGOF on Tresemme shampoo, which Polman bought from Alberto Culver not long ago. I shall suggest that she checks it out by comparison with P&G's Pantene. The latter always struck me as pretty feeble glop, though not as bad as Head & Shoulders.

Good to see P&G on its knees for a change!

To answer a question a few posts below, the UK pension changes are agreed by all and will take effect from July 2012. ULVR gave in on a few minor points such as removing LEAF, leaving the scheme alone for 6 years and a more generous 'matching' to employee contributions for the 1st year which seemed enough to appease the unions. Surely they could start using pictures with their logos to identify the genuine product. Even an illiterate person would be able to recognise a "happy family" picture, say, with enough detail in it to ensure that it could not easily be copied without risk of being sued (the mis-spelt names like "Colagate" obviously pass muster in India where they might not in the Western World).

I'll have a penny per product pack for the idea, thanks ULVR!

Interesting article. One would have thought that ULVR could do summat with their U trademark that they could educate illiterate people to recognise, so as to reduce the chance of being ripped off.

Though I guess that the fakers could imitate the U too, no worries.

Mebbe the answer is to let big retailers like Tesco into India. One assumes that they'd buy the kosher stuff from the likes of ULVR rather than the fakes from the wide boys.

In the meantime we have cautious markets and nit- picking analysts reports but great companies ride through the turmoil around them and that level of quality will be recognised eventually .Same goes for P&G,Nestle,Colgate,Diageo all high returning branded consumer goods companies who throw off cash and can buy other brands with their excess.It's as surefire formula for long term success as you can get.
