VPhase's unique selling point is that it controls the output voltage at 220V (the optimum operating voltage of most electrical equipment) even if the mains supply voltage varies, as it does, in the UK, typically between 228V and 252V).

This means:
1) unlike with the simple step-down transformers, there is no chance that the output voltage will drop below 220V when the supply voltage varies, causing equipment failure; and
2) it can be exported without adaptation to other countries where the supply voltage is slightly different from the UK (e.g. in Europe the average supplied voltage is mostly 230V rather than 240V in the UK).
