While markets are getting hammered I'll be drip feeding cash into some shares. Chances are they'll be in red for a while but I'm not trying to call the bottom on this.

Off topic - I did get round to researching and buying Walker Greenbank a few months ago. Tx for the tip.
Got a plane to catch, so won't be around for a while.

Re: Reaction to the IMS

Hi BB,

A brave person to buy at the moment. I bought a few shares elsewhere a week or so ago and they are looking distinctly down at the moment! The market is in fear mode at the moment so some prices are starting to reach badly oversold levels. YULC has been reasonably resilient in the past, but there were some signs of weakness in the Far East as well. The debt level is still 'high' but I suspect that their investment/ consolidation expenses will start to taper away and the huge synergy savings (still on track) will start to work their way through - so I do not see a problem there; but the market is running a bit scared in respect to large bank loans. Yes the Euro exchange rate has weakend a bit - time will tell if that will remain the case. On the plus side the $ is getting stronger v £ so that will help with a bid from the US.

Reaction to the IMS

Well, the City seems to have decided that the IMS wasn't good news.

From my reading of it, trading is much as expected but the thing which has put the cat among the pigeons is the exchange rate on the Euro.

With everything happening in the world it's probably a bit early to top up, but that's what I did over lunch. Time will tell if that's right or not

Buzz / Old Bolier
You're both right. Basically, don't invest in a company primarily for the possibility of a takeover. But good companies which look undervalued and give a larger company a presence somewhere ( either geographically or <whatever the word is for a product they don't have> ) are always likely takeover targets.

Re: Director buys

.. Did I read that you intend to hold these shares for 5 years. I would suggest that is most unlikely. As the global economy recovers I would expect YULC to be taken over within 3 years. What never fails to amaze me is that no matter how much new production capacity that they build in Malaysia, it is never enough and they have to build yet more facilities. The likes of Dow Chemical cannot ignore the fact the Western economies are moving much more slowly/ more mature than Far East economies, and that they need to have an increased presence there.
Seems to me he sold 5% of his holding at a price lower than the current price by just under 10p and has circa £225k to play with.
I don't think this should be a concern when he still has just under 2m left in the company plus whatever options.
