NEW YORK (AFX) - L'Air Liquide SA's hydrogen sales are set to more than double in the next five years as stricter environmental controls in North America and Europe drive "a real boom" in the market, Air Liquide chairman Benoit Potier said.

In an interview with Agence France-Presse here, Potier said: "There was no market for hydrogen 15 years ago. Today, it is at the same level as oxygen."

"This market currently represents 400 mln eur in annual sales for us. In 5 years, it will approach 1 bln eur," he said.

The group's 2003 sales were 8.4 bln eur in total.
