(Adds details on net gaming revenue from Turkey)
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Online gaming group Sportingbet Plc. said a number of people related to its Turkish business, Superbahis, have been detained by the Turkish authorities, but it has received no formal clarification of this from the authorities.
The company said individuals related to Maslin Properties Ltd., the group's ex-marketing partner in the region, along with a number of their associates have been detained.
The detainees include two UK-based Sportingbet employees -- Turkish nationals who were in the country on vacation.
Sportingbet said it has been gradually reducing its reliance on the Turkish market over recent months, to build a more balanced geographic risk profile for the business.
However, Sportingbet said it continues to trade into the Turkish market and remains confident of meeting market expectations for the fourth quarter and the year ending July 31.
For the third quarter ended April 2008, net gaming revenue from Turkey accounted for about 14 percent of group net gaming revenue, compared to about 26 percent in the second quarter. Additionally, since March 1, net gaming revenue from the region has accounted for around 9 percent of the group's total net gaming revenue.
At 11:21 a.m., shares were down 3.23 percent at 37.50 pence.
