Avinash Vazirani, who has managed the Jupiter India fund since launch, describes himself as a bottom-up, pragmatic, "growth at a reasonable price"-style investor, which means he focuses on buying stocks that can provide growth at a fair price.

The experienced manager believes there are many opportunities for patient investors to get exposure to high-growth businesses at attractive prices within India, pointing out that it is still a very under-researched market.

"There are many strong businesses, often with surprisingly large market caps, that receive less attention than they might elsewhere," he says. "This makes it an excellent market for stockpickers." Currently, Vazirani sees opportunities within the financial sector, consumer stocks and oil services companies.

He also believes the economic outlook appears extremely positive and suggests the fund's holdings are well placed to capitalise in this environment. "The election last May of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bharatiya Janata Party has been the catalyst for a wave of renewed optimism that this vast, young and populous country can again begin to fulfil its economic potential," he says.

Mark Dampier, head of research at Hargreaves Lansdown, has the Jupiter India fund as part of the company's Wealth 150 list of favoured portfolios, and points out that Vazirani has a wealth of experience of investing in India. "He has managed equities in the region for two decades, building an excellent track record," he says. "We believe this fund is a superb choice for adventurous investors seeking to exploit India’s exciting long-term growth."
