Saudi stocks fell for a second straight day, led by Saudi Basic Industries Corp. and Al Rajhi Bank, after Asian, European and U.S. markets declined yesterday and concern grew that the European Central Bank will phase out economic stimulus measures.

Saudi Basic Industries, the world’s biggest chemical maker, dropped 0.9 percent and Al Rajhi, the kingdom’s biggest bank, fell 0.7 percent.

The Tadawul All Share Index declined 0.7 percent to close at 6,270.75 in Riyadh, the biggest drop since Nov. 8. The index has gained 31 percent this year after losing more than half its value in 2008 as oil prices dropped.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index fell 0.3 percent to 1091.38 yesterday, the third daily decline. Europe’s Dow Jones Stoxx 600 and Hong Kong’s Hang Sang dropped for a fourth straight day.

European Central Bank President Jean-Claude Trichet yesterday said the bank will gradually withdraw the emergency cash it has pumped into the economy in order to ensure it doesn’t fuel inflation.

Sabic dropped 0.9 percent to 80.75 riyals today. Al Rajhi fell 0.7 percent to 75.75 riyals.

HERITAGE OIL, the FTSE 250 group run by Tony Buckingham, has agreed to sell its prized Uganda fields for $1.5 billion (£909m) to Eni of Italy in a deal that will bring an £80m windfall for the ex-mercenary.

Heritage, advised by JP Morgan Cazenove, has been quietly sounding out companies interested in taking a stake in its blocks on the shores of Lake Albert. Heritage owns 50% of two blocks in the basin, which represents the biggest onshore find on the continent in decades. The area is very remote and will require billions to develop. Several companies were looking at partnering Heritage but it is understood that Eni has agreed to buy the blocks outright.

Under the deal, which could be announced tomorrow, Heritage will pay a special dividend of 90p to 100p per share to investors. Buckingham holds 33% of the group’s 284m outstanding shares, putting him in line for a payday of up to £84m.

The bonanza is the latest twist in an unlikely career. In the 1990s Buckingham was a partner in the South African-based mercenary firm Executive Outcomes. While there he worked closely with Simon Mann, the ex-SAS officer who returned to the UK this month after spending five years in prison in Equatorial Guinea over a plot to overthrow the government. When Heritage listed in London in 2008, the prospectus said Buckingham “had no contact of any nature with [Mann] since 2000”. Today the company website refers to his old role only as “security adviser to various governments”.

He has built Heritage by investing in regions such as Iraqi Kurdistan, where others fear to tread. The shares have risen nearly 200% in the past year, valuing it at £1.4 billion.

After the investor payout, Heritage’s cash pile will have swollen to about $1.3 billion, which could give Buckingham more leeway in negotiations with Genel Enerji. Heritage agreed a $6 billion merger with the Turkish oil firm in the summer but talks have been slowed by an investigation into Genel executives by the FSA.

The influx of cash gives it more freedom to rejig the terms of the deal or look at other options. The deal carries a break-up fee equal to 1% of the value of the deal.

The Uganda sale also complicates matters for Tullow Oil. The FTSE 100 group owns the other half of the Uganda blocks and is conducting a separate auction. It is understood that Eni was one of the main bidders in that process.

I think you are confusing the facts here, you say the commercial vehicle sector in the UK was worth 4.3billion in 2008, I don't know where these facts come from, perhaps you could provide a link to back this up, but the key thing here is I said EV sector not the diesel sector, therefore I am correct. You are confused.

Can you please show me the company that is currently ahead of Tanfield in respect of sales for EV's. I will be very interested.

Again what annoys me is people who post incorrect facts, opposing views with some meat on the bones yes, but statements that are factually incorrect are just a waste of space.
