The technology behind these vessels are truly awesome. When I was growing up, all I heard was people wanting to be doctors, lawyers and things of that ilk.
No one told me that there were people who designed and built these things. The thought process that goes on in the mind of these individuals is beyond that of your average person. It's amazing to think that there are people who can think of these things. I can't even figure out how to assemble an Ikea flatpack If I could go back and do it all again I wouldn't have ended up in prison that's for sure. |

Sid, There are four and they are Typhoons armed with the latest hi-tech missle systems. Also, some other contributor said that the Type 45 could be sunk by the Argies or friends of theirs. Who, where, when and how. Not a chance. The Type 45 is truly an awesome piece of kit, more than capable of fending off multiple attacks, should it be required to do so. HMS Dauntless sends a big message, I'm now the guard ship, and this is routine and no more. Prince William is on a routine SAR deployment, just happens this is his year.

Post pinched from RKH board. Seems DES/RKH will only pay tax to FI Gov. then.... "No, they won't pay UK tax on their profits. There is a reciprocal agreement in place between the FIG and HMG so that all taxes are paid to the FIG for operations in Falklands waters: "UK resident companies are covered by the Double Taxation Relief Arrangement (Treaty) between the Falkland Islands & the UK. Special rules are included in respect of profits from activities connected with offshore oil and gas exploration. Profits from such activities are deemed to arise through a permanent establishment there is no requirement to identify an actual permanent establishment and subject to a de minimis time rule are taxable in the Falkland Islands if the location of the activities is in the controlled waters of the Falkland Islands." The FIG have however stated on many occasions they will be making payments to the UK for past and present defence costs when they are filthy rich! |

Yeah, but RKH as a company will pay UK tax (income tax) on their declared profits won't they, as they are a UK company? |

That will then show up the dispute for what it is, Argentinians letting UK oil companies do the hard work, then come in and try to claim it for their own.

"I would rather concentrate on the troops on the ground, the force is of a formidable size and the garrison is growing."
--------------------- I think modern warfare is all about air supremacy. There are 6 ? Tornados on the Falklands, The type 45 is more about air defence than sea defence. Argies would have to fly to attack. Not that they will, Dauntless is sticking two fingers up. They could of sent HMS Liverpool instead of retiring her and kept Dauntless back for more important issues..... (there are no more important issues than energy recourses, it gives countries Power to create more armaments and more money .... most wars are over resources, disguised as religious conflicts). But of course we say it is only to replace the type 23 and nothing more. ;-) Sending the heir to the throne on a normal training mission, also says we think he is perfectly safe in the Falklands... so up yours Its all Money, Power and Politics. Clive, there will be no drilling being done by DES as it stands with this BoD.
I started recommending this on the RMP board at 21.5p while staying clear of the DES board and have kept it to just off board mails. I have been accumulating tranches ever since and extremely happy and content to carry. If you click on my history from yesterday on RMP there is a small post on my thoughts on DES. |

You do if the Type 23 your replacing, doesn't make the cut on modern defence, and been out at sea for a pretty good length of time.
So they sent a type 45, big deal, look at what they sent to the Straights of Hormuz. I would rather concentrate on the troops on the ground, the force is of a formidable size and the garrison is growing. |

No need to correct you bud, LE not a chance for DES, possible for RKH if a new partner is keen to have a look at Johnson and paying but doubtful. Things can and will change of course but as of today spot on bud IMO. KR c d |

Mmmm. Not so sure it will be UK energy source for next 30 yrs. I think it it will be produced and sold onto the open market like all the other oil provinces around the globe are. We might, and probably will, end up with some coming our way, which would have been been bought at the going rate and refined here.
As for the leiv Ericson being used in the North Basin - doubt it, not at the day rates being charged for a deep water unit. The ONLY benefits to UK Plc. will be UK taxation on the profits made by any UK registered companies produsing oil in Falklands waters, and possibly the Defence budget savings made once (if) the FI Gov. pay for the UK defence costs. That is my understanding so please correct me if I am wrong. |

" If they intended to drill soon they would have used the OG....you don't let it go, only to then pay $30+Million mob/demob to take another in!"
------------------------------ You do if the contract has ended and some one some where else now has it under contract and signed up before Sea Lion was proved up. I think that is what has happened but please correct if wrong. There is now another rig in the area that could be under negotiation after near future use by other FI oilies. I wouldnt be surprised if soon there is a permanent rig in the Falklands. Money will come flooding in. This (as known to HM Gov), is, potentially, a new world oil find. There may be dilution, there may be farm outs or other deals. But as soon as HMG say "we got you covered" then the facts will be released to the general public and institutional investors. This is going to be the source of UK energy for the next 30 years, it comes just as the North Sea is running out. Coincidence? I think not. http://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/The-Fleet/Ships/Destroyers/Type-45-Destroyers/HMS-Dauntless Just my guess, I know nothing. ;-) sid |
