hmmm...I'd be a bit wary of opening a buy bet on the recommendations of someone who can't use a spell checker.
FWIW, I may well go short just before ex-rights date....from my experience of RIs, there has been a sell off below TERP. Any views? More | View thread (2) | Respond | Login to Vote up | Login to Vote down |

If you bought now you would qualify, you need to hold before the first date and still be holding the same shares on the latter date, after that you can sell them and your entitlement will still be there, which is what a lot of people will do. The likely price trend will be that it will hold at current levels or even increase as people take a position on the RI up until the first date. Then the price will be very static during the period when you need to hold, other than those who don't want to take part in the RI and have held their nerve and have hoped to see a rise as other people bought in for the RI. On the ex rights day the price usually drops back as people who have now qualified for their shares bale out at the highest possible price knowing they can buy back their shares (in this case 7 for 3) at a lower price (again in this case £1.05). Then when the shares go live and are tradeable another retrace is on the cards as those who have bought just to sell them, dump the new shares asap at the highest possible price. Other peoples strategy will be not to take up the RI and wait for the retrace and try and pick the bottom. This could be a good plan as its likely that NEX will again become a takeover target and getting in around £1.50-2.00 may end up being a good deal. If however support is strong and people are holding then it may not go this low, of course the reverse could be true and it is possible it can go sub the RI price, but unlikely in this case as its based on a 68% discount. However, don't forget that there will be alot more shares in circulation for this company, so any future offer will be significantly lower per share than the 500p that was offered by the Cosmens. Unless the company suddenly sorts itself out completely, which with ECML going tonight, C2C in May 2011 and NXEA in March 2011 and with no real chance of NEX likely to get further rail franchises, seems unlikely, I think the best bet for investors will be a takeover, although some holders who have held at £11 per share may well disagree, but as this is directed to you who doesn't hold then you can decide your own strategy. The fly in the ointment could be the Cosmens, who it would appear cannot afford to take their full entitlement up and therefore their 18% holding would be badly diluted. They are speaking to other shareholders to try and stop the RI. If this happens it won't be until after the EGM to approve the RI so you will need to take a position before then and currently it looks unlikely they will get the necessary 51% to stop it as options are now somewhat limited and NEX face a huge bill at the end of the year if they don't pay down some debt. I hope that helps explain how an RI will affect and I'm sure those more knowledgeable than I can correct any parts I may explained poorly.
