Well done on sticking with things & your overall agains from VOD alone! Respect as always. As we appreciate, no-one sells the exact highs or buy exact lows, bar the very lucky.
Despite VOD's results being decent overall, I also had wider macro-factors in mind. Sterling recovering a bit recently, but the FTSE 100 on fire, making a succession of new all-time highs.
Though it's been said many times before, in view of some fairly severe macro-challenges ahead for UK PLC with uncertain outcomes, this bullishness seems unlikely to go on without a sharp general correction... only the timing seems in doubt. - All the best!
Hopefully near the bottom of this dip now. Limit buy triggered at 202 today, as always real shares. Around 6% yield at these prices, so good to hold if necessary but hoping the SP will start to climb towards final divi date in June.
Good luck with those longs. At least we are both looking towards a similar target this time.
Vodafone deal: Why no live news conference?
Sameer Hashmi, BBC Business Reporter, Mumbai
It was interesting that both the companies decided to hold an off-camera press conference to announce such a big merger.
But the reason for that became clear midway through the conference - there are still a lot of operational issues that need to be ironed out by both the firms as they try to create India's largest telecoms company.
For example, it still has not been resolved how will they brand the new entity and who will be the new chief executive.
It will take eighteen to twenty four months for the whole merger process to complete. The exercise is expected to lead to some job cuts as both the firms will align operations to trim costs.
But the merger should be good news for customers as the new entity is expected to slash prices to compete with Reliance Jio.
However I shall do what I normally do, which is to hold long and strong. The deal reads well enough to me despite my ignorance about mobile phones ... and my nervousness about doin' biznay in India ... unless one has been there for a VERY long time as Hindustan Unilever has (to name but one company).
LKH on the flybridge taps nose meaningfully for a second time
